There’s all sorts of different rules at the goal line for possession and control. Why would fumbling out of bounds in the end zone be different?

and neither does a forward fumble out of bounds. and i remember you had a really weird take on that rule in that previous thread but whatever

Just get it, man. You’re a man.

quote:like what? pretty much every single rule that exists at the goal line is consistent with how we view possession and advancing the ball forward. what other rule do we have at the goaline do we completely throw away the rules of advancing the ball?

Yes they had to tweak the rule to prevent intentionally fumbling forward for advancement in the 1970’s.

You can keep having a period over this rule if you want, but it’s a perfectly logical rule no matter how much you don’t like it (not liking it is fair).
I love you.
I love you.

but it’s a perfectly logical rule

Any time a ball is advanced into the end zone in an act that ends the play, possession ends. Touchdown, punt, field goal, safety.
All make far more sense that the fumble touch back rule.

If it was perfectly logical then it would be spotted at the 25 since it's a "touchback"

If you never heard the rules and simply watched football, the fumble touch back would be the one that rocked your brain the most. It's asinine.

I know the rule. It's no less ridiculous.

By who though? Once it's a fumble, there's no possession
I'm actually ok with the current rule though tbh, just happy it didn't screw the Saints over

I've hated that bullshite for years. Such an arbitrary and unnecessarily punitive rule.

It's not, which is the issue I thought
