Was West Virginia football "success" a product of the crappy Big East?

Sure looks like that's the case. TCU and WVU look seriously outclassed in a big BCS conference.

A good friend of mine who's an OU fan talked until he was blue in the face back in '12 how much stronger the big12 was with WVU and TCU.

"Wouldn't even miss A&M and Mizzou," he said.

Can you imagine all the holding penalties we would have every time JFF scrambled if we were still in the big dumpster fire

I dont think any of them really believed that nonsense. It was just the knee jerk typical reaction to losing 3rd and 4th teams to another conference.

Neither of them will recruit well enough to compete. The move as hammered WVU recruiting especially hard. Trying to convince Florida and South East coast kids to play in a league consisting of the schools in the Big 12 isnt going to work very well for them long term.

I would expect an adjustment period. If you play in a better conference, that will help you get better athletes.

TCU was a mid-major a few years ago so a blue chip recruit wasn't going to be as willing to play there. An undefeated season means no chance to play for the national championship.

Now they're in a conference where running the table gives you a meaningful reward, so they're pulling in better players. But their veterans are competing against teams that had that advantage the whole time.

Does Dana still have his mullett? If not, then I blame their failure on his cutting the mullett off.

I dunno--you know how fast and thick the shite was flying when we were in the throes of realignment. More than a few folks I know completely bought the drivel that was becoming the BDF party lines. Hindsight is 20/20, though.

I don't know which was the more perplexing move--them actually going to the big12 or the big12 offering an invitation in the first place.

the mizzou hard on for wvu is strong

you do realize wvu played for the national title twice before the big east got raided

We have more all time wins than Mizzou

More BCS wins

This year was a perfect storm of for a bad year. No depth left by the previous coach and a new conference which is a clear step up in competition. Its gowning pains

You're in the SEC now, you have more pressing concerns such as Atlanta.

It was a strange marriage all the way around.

Probably a marriage of convenience for both parties. ACC and SEC would never offer them and staying in the Big East wasnt an option.

I agree with most of that but I do think it will be harder fot WVU to recruit because of the move but I honestly believe it will only be temporary

Eta I harbor no ill will or disrespect towards WVU I wish them success in the big12

No hard on at all. In fact, it was mostly WVU fans yapping at Mizzou and its fans during realignment.

Just taking a look back at how things worked out. Sorry if the truth is uncomfortable for you.

not even. Dana is setting a new standard in terms of quality of players and having a class with this many guys this early is un heard of by wvu standards

4 of our recruits this year are from FL, including 2 espn 300 guys
