Was NIU the most shocking upset since USC Stanford?

I don’t mean point spread wise or anything like that. I know some teams like Michigan lost the first game to App st (maybe before usc Stan) but it seems unprecedented to see a “top 5 team” ***** get a “big win”*** in college station on the road against Aggie and then get blindsided by a NIU type team in the second game. I think this one caught the nation off guard as much as any game in the modern era honestly.

Didn't Notre Dame lose to Marshall a couple years ago? It's almost becoming a yearly event for the Irish to lose at home to a G5 team.

2023: loss at home to Marshall
2024: loss at home to NIU

Yeah but did they have this much hype train behind them heading into that game? I don’t remember Honestly. It was like they won the Super Bowl against Texas AM. Kinda strange really. It’s just another solid win for most teams. Not easy but solid

For me it's hard to top WVU losing at home to 3-8 Pitt with a guaranteed spot in the BCS title game on the line.

I think USC vs Stanford tops it given the era it was in. USC wasn’t just on a national title hunt but they were still seen as the or one of the premier programs. The SEC was about to hits run but hadn’t yet as Bama was still in the dumps. Stanford was just some dumpster PAC-10 team it’s essentially Vandy beating Bama

I honestly didn’t even realize that ND was ranked #5 until about an hour ago. More overrated than they typically are

If they run the table they will get in. They usc matchup will be enough for the talking heads to push them in. Assuming usc is Highly ranked

I still feel like Auburns*Kick Six* was pretty special too. Of course I don't think we can count either one. Cal and Standford were rivels, so throw out upset there. I think you meant shocking endings. So shocking upsets for unranked team vs team, unfortunately for me yes, but fortunely for history books yes my IRISH losing to Northern Illinois, yes it's up there with App state vs Michigan. Some people forget what Auburn did the weekend before the kick six, because it was is legendary...they beat Georgia with a Hail Mary with 8 seconds on the clock. They didn't go on to win the 2013 title, but I think they stopped Bama from winning it at least. Anyway, I think I'm going to go now, it's always interesting being here.... never a dull moment ??

No, I am pretty sure he meant shocking upsets. Kick 6 is a rivalry and Bama and Auburn are too close for it to ever be that surprising. Auburn always is a difficult out in that game

The biggest point-spread upset in college football history is Howard defeating UNLV, 43-40, in 2017. The Bison were 45.5-point underdogs in that matchup.

Came into this thread to laugh at ND and then had this memory dragged up. Thanks.
