Yeah it was intended as a joke, then clearly bombed, but Paul played it off well enough to keep the interview going and then for some reason the cohost tried to used the exact same joke and seemed to get offended when Jake Paul was like “why are we doing this same thing again, it was bad the first time”
It’s possible the cohost was basically restarting the interview bc of the connection issues, but she references the question so it doesn’t really make sense to do that if it was supposed to be a fresh start take. Also you shoulda figured out that the joke didn’t work and to move on
There is a bit of irony however of trying to play the “it was just a joke” card given how many people have gotten roasted by media members like Hill for using similar excuses when something gets aggregated like this was

Of course the way she was gonna ask that ridiculous question was in a joking manner. But you best believe she was hoping that it would take a turn some way and she could pounce. Jake Paul wasn’t having it and answered perfectly.

The problem with Jemele is she thinks she's funny. But she's so not, it comes across as extremely cringe. Even black people on social media are grilling her about this. But she'll continue to get work because she's a "black, oppressed woman."
