He’s had a better career than PAul. I don’t give a frick about per.
I was probably a bit too harsh acting like Paul is far ahead of Stockton, but he's ahead nonetheless. You can have Stockton, I'll take Paul, and I'll be very happy.

There is obviously a difference of opinion on what a better basketball player means to you. The goal of the game is to win and contribute to winning when it matters. The NBA is an 82 game season in which guys simply do not play hard all the time. Because of this, I don’t value regular season results as much. In the playoffs the intensity and pressure are ramped up. I want the guys who can deliver in those moments.
CP3 has made two conference finals in his career and they were both as a secondary contributor. For most of his career, including when he was the top dog, he had at least one other all star on his roster. He never once made it past the second round. Twice, he had golden opportunities after being up 3-2. Twice, he failed. I’ll give you last year, he got hurt. However, he got the ultimate do over and failed again. I simply do not see how you can consider someone the single greatest player in the history of the game at a position when their record of failure far outweighs their record of success.

Paul is the GOAT traditional PG IMO.
Magic
Oscar Robinson
Stockton
Nash
Cousey
Walt Frazier
Iverson
Then you could argue isiah Thomas and Jason Kidd on some aspects of the game.
Paul is good and top 10 but he doesn’t make my top 5

Isiah was easily better than Paul
I bet you think Eli Manning is easily better than Dan Marino too, right?

Marino was the man.
Like the Paul argument now how efficient would Paul be playing ball in earlier decades when you could mug a man. Paul versus the bad boys of Detroit or John starks of the knicks. You breathe on a player now a days and it’s a foul.
Think what Marino could do now a days on the saints, patriots, or any other high powered offensive where you can barely touch a QB

quote:So has Stockton.
The fact of the matter is that Paul has never had a definitive moment in the playoffs. He has come up short EVERY SINGLE TIME.
If we're doing the Player A is better than Player B because he has more titles or if both don't have titles than Player A is better than Player B because he got 1 round further in the playoffs...that's an extremely naive way of looking at things.
quote:Paul 21/9/5 in his playoff career, Stockton 13/10/3.
You can have all the regular season stats in the world
quote:What is Stockton's big playoff moments? I don't recall Stockton ever sinking a game winner with 1 second left in a game 7...
Every single player you are comparing Paul to has had them
quote:The best PG in history literally did win that game last night.
Best pg in history gets that game last night. Sorry.

quote:Ohhhhhh, I see what we're doing here.
Paul chokes. Stockton put a three in Barkley’s face to eliminate the rockets.
We're being totally biased and not displaying even a hint of objectivity. THAT is how some of you are arriving at Stockton>Paul.
I get it now.

You think Curry is better than Robertson Magic Cousy?
That would be an interesting debate by some.

Magic is the only one up there that has an argument over Curry, but peak Curry is better IMO.

Interesting but there’s some lists that put Curry below all those
I mean I’ve seen some try to list Jerry West as best PG ever. I thought he was a SG
I’d say he’s top 5 in any list for certain and that is nothing to argue about.

Isiah wasn’t a better player he was on better teams though. Isiah was a dirtier and meaner player.
If you’re playing pickup and choosing teams you take Paul over Isiah.

But when Paul or guys from today's game do the same kind of shite, they hate it.

I hated the Pistons and Isiah. I liked the late 80’s early 90’s style of ball better. But I understand not all the players were better

Magic and Stockton are easily the top two traditional point guards in NBA history, there’s no argument otherwise.
The only current point guard in that tier is Curry and he’s not that traditional “quarterback” point guard. If he retired after this season, I’d put him third behind them. Obviously he’s not retiring after this season so he’ll have time to get the longevity stats and accomplishments to pass them up
