I guess it is just me and you man.... Being a boxing fan can be lonely. Anyway, I don't think he got robbed it was a close fight IMO.

It was close but there is no way someone can tell me Andre Ward won 7 rounds in that fight. No way. Therefore, it's a robbery.

This should be another good one. I think Ward takes it too.

Looking at the compubox numbers Kovalev was the busier fighter but Ward was the more accurate fighter. Unless we're saying the numbers were fudged I don't think it's that outrageous as I thought back then.

Maybe we're letting that second round knockdown have a bigger influence than it should. Once that round was over Ward outlanded Kovalev in 6 of the next 10 rounds and landed a higher percentage in all of them. I think it's fair to say he won AT LEAST 6 of those rounds. Going by the compubox numbers I just judged it 114-113 Ward.

Punch stats in a Ward fight are irrelevant because so many of his shots are while he's bear hugging and trying to molest his opponent. Ward ate Kovalev's jab for nearly 1/2 of the fight, plus got dropped. His only good stretch was between 7-10 if I remember correctly. Even the last two rounds were up in the air, with most giving them to Kovalev.

I had it 8-4 or 7-5 + the knockdown. Clear Kovalev victory.

That said, Ward is disciplined and Kovalev seems pissed off going into this rematch. I see this being a good fight early on and then turning into a snoozer as Ward clinches his way to a decision.

If punch stats are irrelevant in judging this fight then it becomes a completely subjective exercise.

How I feel pretty much. A knockdown is only one point. I didn't see Kov dominate so much to call a robbery. A robbery to miss is Chocolatito's last fight. I almost kicked a damn puppy after that.

Nah man. We've just had a couple threads on this fight before this one where we shared our opinions.

It is a shame that they aren't generating nearly as much interest as that Floyd/Conor shitshow. I'm super excited about this fight. These guys showed pretty good chemistry last time. It may be that Ward has solved Kovalev and will make this one a boring fight. It may also be that Ward didn't actually solve Kovalev but Kovalev just got tired. On the 24/7 show he and his trainers claimed that he overtrained. I'm not sure how true that is but if Kovalev is able to stay on his toes and control the distance with that battering ram of a jab, he may be able to amass enough points to get the decision this time.

I also happen to think Kovalev won the last fight but I didn't view it as a "robbery" as some did. I saw it as a really close one that I viewed in favor of Kovalev but could understand an either/or round going to Ward instead.

That's because of Andre Ward and Roc Nation. They are horrible at promoting events.

Now this I agree with 1000%. It feels like Jay Z decided to start promoting fighters because he is either bored or has enough money to throw away.

They are about to fold. I think all Roc Nation has left is Ward and Rigondeaux now that Cotto has bailed on them.

Jay Z quickly found out that promoting a boxing event is not all that easy.

There aren't a lot of promotions on very stable footing. Golden Boy's entire income is based on Canelo. If he craters, they fold. I think their financials came out somewhere because of a lawsuit or something and really showed how dependant they are on the ginger.

Ward will win again, not much different to the last 8 rounds or so of the first fight.
Kovalev is very good, but Ward could've been one of the greats, I just think he fricked his career up a little bit .
People will say "Bullsh**, he's had a great career!" But I think he had been more active, he would've gone from strength to strength.

Yeah I agree on the robbery aspect, close fights don't fall in that category for me. Ward was landing some sneaky good body shots for 3/4 of the fight.
