Unc was a completely different team this year. They fought hard.

I don’t know how long Mac plans on staying. But they’ll be good again under him.

As great Fuente was here, he was always a poor recruiter.

So he didn't recruit Darrell Henderson, Tony Pollard, Anthony Miller etc

When 6-7 SEC teams are guaranteed to have top 15 classes, those rankings are pretty good.

Half of that class will be in the transfer portal once they actually have to go to class.

Here are my Orange and Maroon glasses review of this class...

Since the regular season ended, Fuente has fired RB Coach Burden (probably needed since he was there to recruit the 757 and did nothing), Mitchell (terrible recruiter, great coach), and Wiles (long time DL coach who did well recruiting every position beside his own). Then throw in the uncertainty of what is happening with the D with Bud retiring.

Since then, they promoted a guy who has 1 year of D1 coaching to the DC. I am not a fan as his inexperience will cost us some games as he learns. That being said, the little time with recruits has worked in that he pulled former LSU commit Bryant (LSU probably told him to pound sand, but who cares) and another big DE from Texas. Historically we always struggle with undersized D Line. Plus we added another 6'6" DEs from TN and GA. Fuente wanted to change that and early results are good.

Rumor around Blacksburg which seems legit for once is that Fuente is bringing in Teerlinck the Bills D line coach in. They go way back together.

FUente knows next year is make or break. THey only had one Sr in the 2 deep.

As for VA kids, this year was probably one of the worst classes in history. Minus Lambert who is going to PSU and Sampah to LSU, none of them are that great compared to normal standards. And yes, I am not a fan of Tyree.

That being said, you cannot ignore VA and bringing in coaches who know the area should help.

But if he does not make the ACC Champ game next year, none of this will matter. He will be gone.

I must say after our 2018 disaster of a season, Satterfield has done a hell of a job on the recruiting front.

And....VT only signed one recruit from the state of Va.

Transfer portal U + recruiting class in the 70s = epic failure. Not to mention the loss of Foster.

To think not long ago Beamer had set up an electrified, barbed wire fence around Newport bad News and would just haul studs out of there each year.

Mike London tried, and failed, to break that fence... Fuente just flat out blew it.

VT could hyper focus on two areas and field a competitive football team every year.

Tidewater
DC/Baltimore metro

That's it. Throw in Charlotte and they're situated directly between the 3. Absolutely no excuse not to have a major presence in those 3 areas

Building one program up from the basement and taking over a well-entrenched program from a lifer, the guy who built the program for all-time, are two VERY different jobs.

He's a shite recruiter and should have taken a P5 job where he could have masked that. You can't mask being a poor recruiter in Appalachia and pissing all over the long-time DC that wants your job.

VT needs to be dramatically improved this year for Fuente to be back in 2021. Now or never IMO
