I didn't notice this during the game, but Vrabel reached into his bag of tricks again today.
Titans down 1. Texans have the ball at the Titans 24 yard line. It's 2nd and 1, 3 minutes left in the game. Texans will almost assuredly get the first down.
Vrabel appears to intentionally send 12 defenders on the field. This stopped a running clock without wasting a TO, and forced the Texans into a situation where they needed 19 yards to score a TD and only the chance for one first down. Probably saved close to a minute of game time and the Titans ended up tying the game with 4 seconds left, so his gamble paid off. The Titans defense didn't even seem to know what Vrabel was trying to do.
I thought that was pretty clever. Vrabel is a great in-game coach

I thought he was just a dumb fricking meathead when he was hired, but it’s very clear he brought Belichick’s book of tomfoolery with him to Nashville.

wow
I was gonna question if it was definitely intentional or not, but after watching the video it seems obvious
that is some next level stuff

i couldn't play 12 men but i used to do shite like that on Madden/NCAA to get extra time to score more

Him trolling Belichick and NE in the playoffs last year was GOAT.

Eh, it’s good coaching. There’s a lot of shitty coaches. I’m not sure this requires an Elite level coach to accomplish.

I didn’t realize 12 man on the field stopped the play before it starts. Why is that? Seems like it should just be a free play. And can someone confirm if this can only be done before the 2 min mark? I’m sure this will now be copied repeatedly until the league steps in.

Vrabel has been everything people thought Patricia would be. Its strange

People forget that Vrabel never actually coached under Belicheck

well one is a legit rocket scientist with a lot more NFL coaching experience. it's not hard to see why
i mean Vrabel was a coordinator, at any level, for one year. i don't think his defense was amazing that year, either
sometimes guys are just outliers

i almost brought this up, too
that Bill B tree is so iffy. funny enough, Vrabel was groomed by a Bill B "failure", right?

quote:Correct. Which is why its strange he is the one that seems like the protege', and Patricia just looks like fat bum that only managed to pick up on Bill's clothing style and not his coaching

It’s only a dead ball foul when there are 12 defenders in the huddle and lined up. If the offense snaps the ball while the 12th man is attempting to exit the field, it becomes a free play for the offense. Not sure why the difference, appears to be a change to the rule the league made a few years ago

Impressive game theory optimal approach to clock management. Vrabel shows that he can think 2-3 steps ahead while other coaches do what previous coaches have done without question the reasoning behind it.

Yeah he’s technically under the bill Obrien tree but BOB only spent one year as OC under BB after a few years being a lower level assistant so he’s a fringe BB guy to me himself anyway
The Vrabel thing is funny because I think a lot of people have a Mandela effect about Vrabel and just assume he was a Pats defensive coach at some point when the last time he was in the Pats building to work was the day he got traded to the Chiefs in 2009

Probably close enough to the program as a player to see how some of the sausage is made, while not being so close as a coach where he doesn’t feel the need to do a shitty BB impression as a coach and instead is his own guy
