I don't get your point here. They didn't hit him basically out of chance. He barely jumps out of the way of the first one. The second one looks just as close as Tony's but his leg just wasn't out quite far enough.

Does anyone think ward was trying to put himself in the line of fire of Stewart?
I think he was trying to get as close as could get and both misjudged how close they were to each other.

I love how people are conveniently forgetting that Stewart is supposed to be this world class driver with amazing skill.
The drivers they interviewed on the ground that night who saw it live are right...Stewart knew what he was doing...whether to scare or throw dirt. He got close on purpose and hit the gas...not to run him over...but anger/rage/intimidation all the crap these guys always seem to have.

Is there another video that I'm not seeing? I only see about 30 feet on either side of Ward, and I can't tell from that what was happening right before Stewart entered the frame and hit him.

I don't know what Ward's motivation was. Seemed like he wanted to either hit Tony's car with his fist or maybe try and get him to stop.
