from a crash that had a horrible fire. If this accident happened 4 years ago, he would had never survived the accident...with F1 safety protocols (halo on cars), Romain walked away with just burns on top of his hands.

Someone timed it and he was in that fire for 25 seconds or so

Quite a few of those guys back in the 60's an 70's just burned alive. The safety features and suits are remarkable.

I was watching the race when the crash happened. I thought he was dead. The car broke in half. The technology that goes into the drivers survival pod is incredible.

Halo saved him from decapitation they said. You can actually see where the guardrail started cutting through the halo, that would have been his neck. Props to the safety engineers.

How about the 2 guys with extinguishers? They got to Romain quick and started to spray him down. No wonder he was hugging them in the video, he probably would had burned to death.

They were working on the flames in ~1/2 that time. The response time was incredible.
