First things first, i'm really big on the whole, "black people use their version of the word wayyyyyyyy too much".

But...intent HAS to count for something. When black people use it, the intent is just ever so slightly than the usual instances when white people use it. Just slightly lol.

It does. Why else would he use that slur unless he had some racial animus.

Well yeah and like I said, I think he meant it more so in a disrespectful way and had it been a white guy he would have said redneck or white trash. Obviously we are most sensitive to that word in society because of the past but he seemed to use it out of anger not because he is a racist.

I hear ya. I moreso meant intent in every situatoin, not just this one, but yea I agree with you.

There is another side of this I thought of, just for conversatoinal sake...isn't it entirely possible that given the football environment he's been around probably a great part of his life, and given that the majority of these teams are usually black players, isn't it possible that he became a bit desensitized to the word if he's heard young, black guys use it towards each other in the common way that is done?

A couple of disclaimers here before I get beat down lol. I'm not saying every black football player loves to toss the word around, nor does this excuse what Cooper said, I'm just saying it's possible that he's heard this word thrown around, and being in that environment, he may be more used to the word or desensitized towards it than some other white people would.

Because he's in a locked room where that word is thrown around like the word "dude" or "guy."

The guy apologized though, so it's time to move on.

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out compared to how the media relentlessly attacked and piled on Paula Dean.

I get it. He's just a product of his environment.

Intent does count. However, blacks don't pronounce words ending in er properly anyways so it always comes out ending with an -a anyways. Blacks use it in derogatory means during confrontations.

Also:

White person makes racist remark it's all over the web, news, social media, etc.

Black person makes racist remark and it's meh...

-------------

The double standard is disgustingly hilarious. Oh well. What Riley Cooper did was fricking stupid. The word in itself should not be used by anyone. It's fricking dumb.

Saying the N-word in and of itself is not inherently racist. Actually calling a black guy "boy" is more true to the definition of racism. The n-word is offensive but doesnt necessarily convey the sense of superiority or inferiority of an entire race that is required for an act to be racist. It is simply the derogatory word for black person. In this instance we have an angry guy saying the most offensive thing he could think of. Thats not racist. Its like calling a girl a bitch because you know it will piss her off.

its awfully naive to think that's not what every defenders does to every player.

Not true.

Watch when theres a running play off tackle to the right this season, often times the WR/DB on the left side of the field are just barely pushing eachother and going through the motions, conserving energy for the next play. I can see a DB being a lot more physical in those types of off the ball situations.

I hear ya, but damn. The way he said it, I'm sure none of his black teammates have ever said the n-word like that

Former Eagles DE Hugh Douglas sure sounded like he had his panties in a twist this morning when he phoned in to ESPN to give his two cents.

I'm just overall sick of the black vs white mentality that the media portrays there to be. It's a tired damn subject. It's like the media WANTS segregation or something.
