I love football and it produced some great memories and friendships for me. I have been lucky enough to help a couple of local high school programs. I have been lucky enough to watch my kids play pee wee football...and help coach.
All that said, the game of football as we know it will be gone in our lifetime. The long term effects on the brain and body will start to overflow the financial and entertainment factor.
Football is an extremely violent and physical game that takes a toll on the body when played at the professional level. The cost to operate a high school program is sickening and a big waste for most communities.
The collegiate game is being ruined by greedy athletic directors and university presidents.
But at the end of the day, player health concerns will kill the game we know.

Football and it's risks should always be weighed in discussing its demise.. at this time ., the benefits outweigh the risks by a wide margin. That will slowly change as the younger generations view of the game, changes as they age. We are at the end of the shake it off mentality when it comes to head trauma, parents and the kids are becoming hyper aware of the signs and potential consequences.. I see all this as an upper middle school coach and begin to wonder how long the game in its current form has... it's a very violent game at the middle school and high school level because of differing levels of puberty combined with an acceptance to the hitting needed.. I've seen some scary stuff with a 110 Pd kid with no fear taking on a 160pd runner who also has no fear.. physics is a bitch in these situations..

A lot of money is wasted on high school football programs
One mans trash is another mans treasure they say. "Wasted" in that context is highly subjective.

Maybe start them playing tackle at high school and just do 7 on 7s untill then.

I know that football kept at least 8 violent offenders from doing violent things for at least High School, just in our town. It kept them somewhat straight and got most of them a high school diploma and 1 a major college and eventually to the NFL for a short time. I'd hate to think what they'd all be doing without at least the positive distraction that football can be from a horrible life..... Not even to mention it's currently the best chance for a lot of kids to have fatherly like male role models. I'm sure a lot of future rapists and murderers took a slightly more positive path because of the positive experience that HS football brought them. And for some, unfortunately, it's the only way anybody will ever care about them, which that alone can change someone's life.

What? The large majority of football programs make up for all the money that is spent on the other sports.

I played Pee Wee football, middle school football, High School Football in the largest classification in Texas, and college football at the D1 level
I got 2 concussions in high school and 3 in college
Guess what - I have turned out fine. I'd do it all over again if I could
frick these liberal vagina pussies who want to ban it. They are just mad they were unathletic slobs who got picked last for everything.

For fricks sake nobody is forcing the kids to play. Most know the dangers and do it anyway because it's fun and breeds new friendships. It can also get you a free scholarship and hopefully millions.
