Up 52% from 2010.

I'm not sure you understand what "doubling" means and that link doesn't back-up your assertion either.

52% is not double

No shite.

I don't know if you know this, but the WC isn't even close to being over and the US is going to go further than they did in 2010. So yea, I'd say it's on pace to double 2010.

2. If you are an MLS fan, you watch the MLS Cup. There is no excuse for 500k viewers. I mean, this isn't a random West Coast game...

3. The EPL or other leagues aren't getting good numbers, either.

The MLS Cup was on at the same time as some of the college football conference championship games. You can be a MLS fan but also be a bigger CFB fan. The game was between Kansas City and Salt Lake. I may be off base here, but those aren't huge markets, are they (I really don't know)?

The EPL is the only other league that most people can watch. Not everyone gets NBCSN, but even fewer have beIn, which has La Liga. Fox is getting the Bundesliga in 2015, so that will be nice.

Nah. I'm fairly confident we will. I just have a feeling.

Honestly, I've never seen a phenomenon like this for any other sporting event. People are packing bars for the WC and I don't think its just an excuse to get drunk. Right now, people are extremely energized...moreso than any Olympic event that I recall.

Its probably a combination of the following:
1) Soccer is a growing sport
2) The USMNT is in a underdog role
3) The WC only happens every 4 years
4) Patriotism: Everyone can get behind the USMNT. This isn't city vs. city
5) No commercials and goals happen suddenly without much notice.

I don't think its a sign that soccer has "arrived" as a major sport in the US....but I think its an indicator that it is gaining. I'm not some soccer advocate but you have to wonder if the game will benefit from the growing trend of concussion/injury concern in the NFL/football.

I have a sneaking suspicion that those bars are a media created "spontaneous gathering" of soccer fans.

Love how this news upsets people so much. I've watched more WC soccer in the last several months than a single inning of MLB.

Disclaimer: I hate soccer..and frankly think that if you are from a first world country and make this your number one sport, I think less of them.

Most ignorant thing I've seen on this board in a while. What a stupid thing to say.

There's a misconception that Soccer will grow because people will change their minds and that will happen to an extent. But the growth will come from the younger generations getting older. My generation(im 30) is the group of kids who first grew up playing FIFA and will kickstart the growth of soccer in the US.

As much as I hate the four letter network, I think alot of the ratings can be attributed to the truly first class coverage that ESPN has produced for the US and for the world cup in general. From the pump up commercials, to the 24/7 style back story episodes, its really been awesome.

It really makes me cringe at how bad FOX will screw it up when they get the coverage in four years.

I bet the numbers in American for the Champions League were much higher.

2014 champions league final had 1.9mm viewers in the us. For reference, almost every week during the 2013 cfb season, the Thursday night game had 2.5mm+.

Don't think the media had much to do with people planning to watch the match with other people.

It's not that the news upsets people. It's that soccer fans try to make the news out to be something it's not.

Soccer fans are pumping sunshine and others are trying to tell them to be realistic.

We can't just be happy that we can finally talk about soccer with other people in the office?

And on another note, there has been a huge female viewership of the USA games. I've seen it first hand in NOLA.

Women couldnt give a shite about NBA teams in some other city playing a long arse, best of 7 series.....or a boring MLB game that is one out of 150 that season.

But, when they can have an excuse to dress up in their red, white, and blue and watch a single game with worldwide impliations......they can watch that.
