Yeah besides our goals our interior D was top notch, nice work by Guzan, Gooch, Demerit, Spector and to an extent Bornstein.

i think a lot depends on the refs

if we can play torres physically we have a shot. if the refs protect him, we're fricked

I DVR'd the match and watched Brazil-Italy live, instead. I haven't read any comments in this thread yet, but I'll watch the game in a couple of hours and come back here afterward.

I saw the last 3 minutes of the match, along with the three goals and the disputed goal-line handball (which should have been a penalty), but that's all I've seen. I am very impressed that the US was able to have such a strong game after the Brazil debacle.

Maybe Rossi should have stuck with the US if he wanted to play for a competitive international team that advanced to the group stages in major tournaments.

What is best about this, is that the USA gets to play TWO more matches since there is a third-place game in this tournament. Any action in this type of tournament can do nothing but good for the Americans going forward into the conclusion of qualifying, and into South Africa next year.

Demerit was the player of the game.

the whole game will be decided in the midfield imo...if Xabi and Xavi control the game, nothing else will matter

if we come out and try to play longball again, an epic loss might be on the cards

and heck, there is a very very good chance that they beat South Africa if they do get knocked out by Spain.

I just hope Bradley mixes up the line ups a bit in the 3rd place game if that is the case.

every now and again we play a finesse team and get a lucky early goal and they don't recover

the best example was portugal in 2002

Thoughts on who starts in the net vs. Spain?

I'd start Timmy, but I won't throw a bitch fit if Guzan starts.

I think I'd go with Guzan just for momentum sake.

Just watched both matches at a pub in Dallas. Great time. Unbelievable.

I think Tim should start, but think Robert will start Brad. Like you said, henderson, I'm not that upset if Guzan does play, though.

I'm just thinking from inside of the team's perspective. After this game, who do you trust more (as a teammate) in the net? Howard is extremely athletic but seems to be hesitant at times. The first goal vs. Brazil should have been his at the five yard line. IMO

Just for the record, I'll also be good with either.
