I agree with that.
But more times than not for me, 36 putts is gonna be a mid to high 70s day.
Not great but not horrible.

Because you made the statement:
I disagree with that. Unless I'm reading something wrong, which I don't think I am. I see where you edited to make it a question though.
@TIGRLEE - you said that you were happy with a two putt every hole, which I'm assuming is when you have a somewhat good round (since you said you were happy). I would think that a mediocre to bad round would be around 40 putts, since two putting every hole is 36
that's why I made that statement.

A 4 handicap is happy with a two putt every hole.

40 putt round for me would suck.
I'd end up losing a lot of money and I'd be mad.

Ahh, didn't catch on to that
My train of thought is that if you are a 4 handicap, you have pretty much eliminated lots of 3 putts, and are gunning for making some birdies. Two putting every green means you don't make a single putt. As a 4, I would be pissed if I didn't make a putt all day, and that's with the assumption that I hit every green. An average round for a 4 who is happy two putting every hole is like an 82.

From an article on pga.com.
This is consistent with what I think of with regards to putting for amateur golfers.
quote:
36 or more putts per round is poor putting. Anywhere between 31-35 putts per round is acceptable good putting for the average golfer. 26-30 putts per round and you have now crossed over into the realm of great putting. If you average 25 or less putts per round, please contact me immediately, because I'd like to be your talent agent.

I shot 82 at regatta bay last week.
Had nothing to do with putting though.

I as well

Of course putts per round is a tough indicator by itself when evaluating where you can take strokes off your game. You really have to combine it with GIR to see if putting, iron shots, or chipping is the primary factor affecting score.

I'm playing after lunch, I'll keep up with # of putts and report back.
Posted on 6/13/13 at 10:50 am to unbeWEAVEable
Id be pissed if I 2 putted every hole.
odds are you arent gonna hit every green and getting up a down and making a good look at birdie is a must to be better than a square golfer

Here is an interesting chart regarding putts per round, gir and handicap.

So 2 putts every hole = 20-25 handicap, not 4????
Posted on 6/13/13 at 10:55 am to unbeWEAVEable
in other news, Carr McCalla has taken his rain delay tour up to Merion this week

quote:Not exactly. Average 2 putts for every hole and only hit 3 GIR = 20-25 handicap.
So 2 putts every hole = 20-25 handicap, not 4????
With penalty strokes and strokes until you reach the green, it is difficult to just equate a number of putts per hole to a handicap. It is even tougher the higher handicap you get.
