Some Tiger dickriding will actually be refreshing here after all of the LeBron obsession the past few weeks.

Does the USGA purposely try and keep higher profile pros paired with higher profile pros?

You would think tee times would be a random selection but that appears to not be the case.

Tee times aren't random for any pro tournament. Marquee groups are good for TV and live viewers.

These two groups are awesome.

This article about players already whining has me all giddy inside.

I agree with Nicklaus. Those complaining are already done. While I'm in the "Woods will never win another major" camp, I'm thinking he may do better than McIlroy and that's saying alot considering how crappy the chosen one has been playing lately.

The winner of the previous week's tournament always gets in the next week's. Like when Speith won one week and got into the British the next.

I actually don't think so. The only way they would get in is if it put them in the top 60 of the world. Ben Crane won last year and I don't believe he got an invite.

According to wiki it's the top 60 two weeks prior to the Open. According to that I don't see how anyone NOT already in can qualify by winning the St. Jude.

Eta: apparently the field is always 156, so if the current field is 156 no one will be admitted unless a golfer has to withdraw prior to the start of the tournament.

There's a top 60 cutoff by May 25, and then another one at June 15. Matt Jones is probably the only guy who has a chance to still get in the field.

The players can stfu. The USGA has said leading up to this event that the players will be challenged and this is a golf course that you can't just show up to and play one practice round, walk the course once, and be prepared.

The players response to that, they mocked the USGA.

"What's Mike Davis' handicap?" asked Rory McIlroy, another U.S. Open champion and the best player in the world, something Davis is not. It was a playful reminder that amateurs who run tournaments should not underestimate the skill of those who do this for a living.

When I saw the article I was almost positive Ian Poulter was going to be one of the guys complaining. And he was. What a shocker.

why do american fans hate poulter so much? ... don't like his pants? ... he didn't complain about anything, yet ... he repeated what he'd been told ...

“The reports back [from fellow players] are it’s a complete farce,” said Ian Poulter, who had not yet been to the course. “I guess someone has to win.”

Ryder Cup. And he comes across, at least to me, as a first class a-hole.
