This will be the second time they have killed a version of the conference.

meeting this morning to sign a Grant of Rights,
What could be in this that would suddenly make everyone want to stay? Isn't this the same thing that has the ACC schools pissed off?

I'd take lesser dollars to go to the BIG for long term stability. This is a serious gamble if you are Oregon or Washington.
Plus just exposure.
I would guess these Apple TV pac games will have much less than 50k viewers each.
They will basically cease to exist in the minds of most sports fans.

So, not much is changing.

At last minute, Pac-12 may stay together & sign Grant of Rights. After Monday’s media rights offer, P12 held multiple zoom meetings this week. Arizona’s Bobby Robbins appeared fully committed to Pac-12 so much that one participant said: “If Arizona leaves, he should win an Oscar"
From Brett McMurphy
Lots of conflicting messaging this morning. One thing to remember is that conferences and schools will use media members as mouth pieces to create chaos and fuel instability.
This was a huge problem last time with that douchebag Matt Brown being a fricking mouthpiece for the Sun Belt

Imagine being Arizona, ASU, UTAH and not going to the Big12 with more stability and money because you don't want to look bad...like hey boss I don't want a raise it will make the other employees sad...

How dumb are these PAC schools? I thought they were supposed to be smart

Cal, at least, loves the smell of their own farts to where they think that being an academic powerhouse means they deserve money without having to rub shoulders with the Boise States and Texas Techs of FBS.

It's showing us a couple things:
First, some of these Pac schools really don't seem to give a frick about athletics, and are more concerned with alignment of academic "peers".
Second, the reduced shares offered by the B1G to Washington and Oregon demonstrate again that the tv dollars just are not there in the current climate and I am no longer sure that we are going to see the B1G or SEC expand beyond 16 teams. We already got a taste of this when ESPN seemed unwilling to open up the checkbook to pay the SEC for a nine-game conference schedule once OU and Texas join.
Third, and I cannot overstate this, Arizona State and Utah are led by clowns. Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Cal would (will) leave them in the dust at a moment's notice, but ASU and Utah still can't swallow being in the Truckstop Conference, even though it would mean significantly more money and stability for many years to come.

The Arizona State President is more concerned about Standford and Cal than his own school.
These high brow academic types are a joke.

From inside the AZBOR meeting... ASU Pres Crow throwing tantrums with some regents saying he is being a "pain in the butt." BOR and his own AD trying to drag him into reality, but he is using "stubbornness masquerading as extreme attention to detail" to express his displeasure over having to "leave his friends."
Arizona st fans are about to get fricked because their president is a west coast Cali moron

I just find it insane that schools would show loyalty to a conference with leadership which has been consistently inept for over a decade.
They are already trending back from a Power Five to a Group Of Five conference. Having such a poor media deal may make them the next Conference USA or WAC as everyone looks for the door.

Oregon are expected to stay in the Pac-12, barring an eleventh hour change. That could have the power to keep the league together, as Arizona has not finalized its deal with the Big 12.
Posted on 8/4/23 at 9:25 am to Talkum Poudar
This was floated in the interview I listened to the other day.
Crow was on board with the media deal but everyone around him supposedly talked sense into him about how bad it was to where he would be willing to jump.
Apparently it didn’t work.

Why would this change Arizona’s position?
Posted on 8/4/23 at 9:31 am to teke184
[Karpman] Arizona is doing everything it can to leave. ABOR wants the schools to be together and has authority. Michael Crow is pushing for more consideration. Pac-12 is meeting this morning on a grant of rights. It’s getting very messy. Crow has always preferred the Pac-12 stay together.

Nothing like taking less money and killing your national exposure...

Will someone eat crow when this is over or will someone eat Crow instead to change the outcome?

That's a not a new thing. Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers are still getting a reduced share from the B10.
