Posted by roadGator This was the problem last night. I had folks saying safe/out and advance/go back. I expressed my opinion like this. The runner should not be allowed to advance, it was a dead ball and you called it a dead ball. I still lost. The fielder only showed you possession after the runner was safely on 2nd. Prior to that the ball was not controlled and was merely under the glove and not inside the glove. You saw him turn the glove over and control the ball after the runner was on second right? "Yes, he's still out". I lost that one again.
You are arguing calls with an umpire in 10U? That's bush league. Let the kid's play, the umps umpire, and the coaches coach.

bullshite.
let me ask you this: if the batter comes out of the box and kicks the fricking ball all the way to the fricking foul pole, can the runner round the bases?
Oldcharlie, this actually made me laugh.

Who argued? I expressed my opinion and stated as much. It was all done low key and respectful. You may need to get a grasp on reading comprehension. Oh and pound sound.
ETA: I'm the coach. I thought that was clear.

Rules 6.05(g) and (h) interference occurs when the batter interferes with the natural course of a fair batted ball. When this interference occurs, the bases may not be run; all runners not declared out by virtue of offensive interference shall return to the last base legally touched at the time of interference. When batter's interference occurs, runners must return to the base last occupied at the time of the pitch (as opposed to the time of interference).

It was clear. I've coached 12U and 14U for years. I've never once questioned an umpire's call during a game. You stated you "lost" twice. That's why I assumed you were arguing. If you were merely asking him/her a question, then there aren't winners and losers. At that age, worry about coaching your kids. You wouldn't want umpires telling you how to coach, so don't tell them how to umpire.

Save your crud for someone else. The umpire came up to me tonight and apologized for getting the call wrong.
No one argued with him. I made an appeal in a polite manner as I was instructed to do prior to the tournament.

Call all you want. I HATE umpiring myself, so I made a deal with myself long ago to never question an umpire's call when I'm playing or coaching.

Good for you, especially when coaching such young kids.
