That might be a disadvantage compared to the stickum WRs and DBs used to cake an inch think on their hands back in the 70s and early 80s.

There was really only one egregious offender and that was Lester Hayes.

I think most receivers - in fact all would wear tacky gloves over that messy goop which was more mental than helpful.

Fred Biletnikoff was the offender

I keep thinking about the OP's post I'm gonna have another stroke today's athletes across all major sports are SOFT compared do yesteryear

LeBron would fold like a pussy if he tried driving the lane vs the Pistons with Laimbeer et al

Ha. That’s who I was thinking of but couldn’t remember his name. Didn’t they change the rule because of him??

Idk about all this. Levon Kirkland was a MLB and he was 6’4 260-270. Look at the size of most MLBs now. The average O-Linemen/D Linemen is smaller than they were 10 years again and those guys were smaller than they were 10 years prior.

The NBA wouldn’t bring in a guy like Yao or Shawn Bradley now. Rudy Gobert and Peja are the same height and weight. Peja was a wing player 20 years ago. Gobert is a lockdown paint defender today.

The athletes haven’t really gotten that better, we’re just working the margins more/better with the resources we have now.

Yeah Lester got it banned because he put that shite all over his uniform.

You could use it on your hands but not bathe in it.

Plus the league and QBs hated it because once someone with stickum would touch the football it would be all over the ball.

Trying throwing a pass with a gob of stick-um on the ball.

He would even put it on his helmet just in case he had to make a helmet catch.

That's not an unpopular opinion. All sports evolve. Athletes get bigger, faster, stronger, and more skilled in each passing generation.

Bill Simmons has the right thought when referring to how he prefers to rank his all-time NBA players in generational based categories. It really is a much better comparison to rank Shaq against Ewing and Hakeem than against Bill Russell and vice versa.

Yeah at least the rules back then gave defenses a chance.

I didn't grow up watching basketball on grass like you did.

I understand people hate lebron but he’s the only player in today’s nba that seeks full contact every time he drives. He’s one of the only in today’s game that could play back then

I would love to see Nolan Ryan in today’s game just so I could watch Bryce harpers face after a high and tight and the mental gymnastics of him gauging whether he wants to just walk to first quietly or get his arse kicked

Bet you labron wouldn't run the lane against the old pistons. They didn't care about fouls. They didn't go for the ball, they went for the player. They tried to kill Jordan.

Lebron would score 40 a game in the 80s. Players were pussies and couldn't play true zone

It would be interesting if the NBA today would just allow a team to just say hey we’re going to literally beat the crap out of LeBron every time he comes down the lane we’re just gonna punch him in the head every single time he came down the lane and then the NBA let them get away with it. Because that’s what Laimbeer and the Pistons did. Laimbeer would literally punch people in the face and not even get ejected
