Q. Talking about falling in love, do you think that falling in love with something else than tennis did delay a little bit your rise?
GRIGOR DIMITROV: What are you referring to (smiling)? Go ahead, say it to me. It's okay.

Q. When I was young, I did like very much the young girls. Sometimes I got distracted. So I'd like to know if you get distracted, too.
GRIGOR DIMITROV: You deserve the best answer now. Let me think about it (laughter). That was the greatest thing I've heard, man. Oh, wow.

I obviously have a soft spot for that. You know, on a serious note, I always try to keep whatever else outside the court. I think when I was younger, I was struggling to kind of differentiating love from a personal love or a tennis love or whatever else, for sure.

You know, there was time, a period, that I wasn't, like, kind of sure how to deal with both things in the same time. But you learn. I guess we grow. I mean, I don't want to say I've learned from my mistakes, but I've learned myself a little bit better. I think that helps me. Hopefully it's going to help me for the future through any kind of falling-in-love stuff. But yeah.

If Stan brings his A game, then nobody in tennis can beat him. However, he is so inconsistent you just don't know what you will get. Hoping he doesn't bring his A game and Fed wins in 4.

Uh oh, are the moneyball nerds invading tennis?

quote:

But the tournament director Craig Tiley is interested in more than facilities and revenue. Tiley, a former college tennis coach at the University of Illinois, has long been interested in improving the information available to both tennis insiders and fans. In his role as chief executive of Tennis Australia, he pushed to create an entity at the federation called the Game Insight Group, or GIG. One of the benefits to the public is a new flow of compelling and creative player statistics that have been published ahead of this year’s Open and will be updated and released during the tournament itself.
...
- Based on a metric created by GIG, Andy Murray had the highest work rate per shot in the men’s game and Gilles Simon the highest work rate per point. Barbora Strycova had the highest work rate per shot in the women’s game; Yulia Putintseva the highest work rate per point.
- Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer rank No. 1 and 2 in reaction time on service returns in the men’s game: ahead of Novak Djokovic, widely viewed as the game’s best returner, who ranks seventh by this measure.
- Serena Williams, known for her aggressive style of play, ranks near the bottom among women in shots that land close to the line.

Good find.
quote:

Full disclosure is not part of Tennis Australia’s plan, either. “We’ve got to try and conserve a competitive advantage for our Australian players and coaches,” said Machar Reid, the group’s “innovation catalyst,” who oversees GIG. “With that in mind, we’ve got to be astute about what we do and don’t release and the extent to which we interpret perhaps what we do and don’t release.”

It would be a shame if we let Australia beat us in the stats department.

Oh, and don't let Vibe read the part about Raonic.

Here is the Stan/Jo "dust-up." It's so cute hearing them get snippy in French. Typical Stan. Act like a weirdo, then blame everyone else for reacting poorly.

Stan appeared to have the upper hand in that exchange in addition to the match.

Eta it's pretty rare to see players talk to each other that much during a match.

Lucic crying on the court after making the semis was awesome. Can't believe she is still out there. They showed clips of her 1999 Wimbledon semis the other day against Graf. I think on court interviewer Renae Stubbs said Lucic's first Aussie Open when was against her.

Seems like Tsonga is kinda soft, and Stan probably knows that and decided to get in his head.

Gilbert saying the courts will be slower for Nadal-Raonic. I don't get the reasoning on that one.

Serena should have challenged that. Could be a turning point.
