I am an avid MLB watcher and, during the season typically start my mornings watching the Recap Rundown on MLB. A few days prior to Orlando Cabrera's ankle breaking slide at home, I was thinking that there seems to be a large amount of unnecessary sliding in the league.

Ball is nowhere near the base or plate, but players are sliding and risking injury. For plays at third or home, there is typically a coach or teammate. Why aren't these guys telling players to stay up; that sliding isn't necessary?

Anyone else feel like this is accurate?

You risk injury trying to stop quickly from a full gallop and you are more likely to over run the base.

I remember in little league I liked getting my uniform dirty for no reason.

Quickest way to slow down and they’re pros— they’ve been doing it for decades
