post a pic of that bad boy
the swelling has gone down quite a bit, but still puffy.
Also, tough to see but, on my middle knuckle is a cut. Like a tooth mark. It's a nice gash, and I have no clue it would have gotten through all the guaze, tape, AND the UFC leather.
But sure enough when they cut my wrap off it was bloody

A couple of things from the fight you guys might enjoy:
first round, I hit him with a hard body kick right to the midsection. He backed up and like a little piggy grunted and grumbled, obviously trying to catch his breath.
At the beginning of the third round I yelled across at him and stuck my glove out and says, "you want to touch em up?"
he speaks no English, so looked at me puzzled. So I pointed at my glove, and he then inspected his own glove. He thought I was telling him something was wrong with his glove. Kinda funny.
In the third we were against the cage, and he was trying to take me down but I was stuffing it. We kinda stalemate, so I used the opportunity to cover his mouth with my hand, and pinch his nose. He was breathing hard as was, so tried to shake my hand off. When he couldn't, he gave me a little chomp with his mouthpiece and bottom teeth.
Didn't hurt at all, and he was not trying to cheat, he was just trying to make breathing room and my digit slipped on in

- I had the Lawlor fight 10-8 in the first, 10-10 in the 2nd and 10-9 Simpson in the 3rd. At worst the 2nd round was a 10-9 Simpson and it was a draw. No way Simpson won that fight after what happened to him in the first round.
- Amir looked good although I couldn't for the life of me figure out why he would immediately take the guy down after he rocked him standing up. He does lack power in his punches but when a guy is hurt like that, those punches can still go a long way.
- Dunham with an impressive W. Beautiful transition from the back, to the triangle, to the armbar. I wonder how bad Efrain's arm is hurt. He should have tapped 10 seconds before he did.
- The Maynard-Diaz fight was awful and I honestly cannot make an argument for either fighter on who should've won that thing. Too much bullshite posturing and not enough fighting IMO.

agree that it could have gone either way but I do have a problem with one judge giving Gray the third round. Diaz worked him in that frame and did more damage throughout the fight.
No way Dana allows Maynard a title shot. There is a point where these guys need to realize that they are entertainers. That is what their money is derived from.

Lawlor was robbed but I think the Maynard fight's decision was right on. Gray worked Nate in the first two and ran out of gas in the third. My gawd I despise the Diaz brothers and their posturing, antics, and ridiculous mean faces. I cringe every time they speak. That being said, I want no part of seeing BJ destroy Gray.

just talked to him in the airport....
Said it was just some stretched ligaments in there.
He was in a sling but took it off going through security and moved with some soreness

Beezy,
Is the hand broken or just sprained? I know you said you wanted to be active this year in the fight game. You going to jump back into training camp or reassess things after the loss?

Hand is not broken... Just swollen and busted up.
You don't jump into a training camp unless you have a date set to fight. Camp=serious training, diet, sparring, twice a day, strength and conditioning coaches, etc for 8 weeks.
I won't do that until I have a fight lined up. But I will be in the gym tomorrow training. Won't do much this week, but next week I'll be back to 5-6 days a week training once a day.
That sounds like a lot but for us that's actually a significant scaling down from fight prep. Fight prep is 6 days a week, 13 sessions a week. Regular training would just be 5-6 days a week, 5-6 sessions a week

The thing I took from FN20 is that there is an even larger gap between contenders and Penn than I originally thought. Frankie deserves the shot, but Maynard shouldnt even be considered. Guy would just get destroyed. Maybe its time to call up some guys from WEC or at least let BJ move up a weight class to make more interesting fights.
Posted on 1/12/10 at 9:47 am to KBeezy
Can you jump over to the WEC and get your name out there and build up your record then come back to the UFC with more experience and a fanbase, or is that too much of a step backwards?

AMEN!
But the WEC guys arent the answer. Not for BJ anyway. After BJ, the next best 155 fighter ZUffa has under contract, including WEC and UFC, is probably Gray, then Frankie.
Gomi could make that fight interesting vs Penn IMO though. Stylistically. But he is deserving of nothing yet

thats 6 decisions in a row for Maynard

After last night, got to be Frankie. Plus he's Jersey.
