I remember when Texas let a reliever throw 150+ pitches in a super regional game in 2009. Absolute garbage to put that much stress on an amateur arm.
Only because the stress on their arms prior to college.
It wasn't always a problem.

Good for them. Refreshing to see a coach and player not be pussies and realize guys can throw more than 80-90 pitches. Players used to do it all the time and were fine. The reason these players get these arm injuries today because they don't push themselves.

Are Cajuns in postseason if they drop championship game?
No they need to win it.

It doesn't matter if a guy is a first round pick or an undrafted nobody, college coaches are going to pound their pitchers to get a win, and not think twice about it. They don't care.
As long as the guy is healthy I see no issue with it. The college coach is there to win games for his school not develop players for MLB. He works for the college not the player and not MLB.

If fairness, the college coach’s job is to win college games, not protect the arm of a player who may or may not make it to MLB

Is that the only reason? You sure it doesn’t have anything to do with how much harder kids throw nowadays, putting more stress of their arms whether they throw 90 or 120 pitches in a start?

I also remember Skip Bertman let Brett Laxton throw 140 pitches verse Wichita St in the 1993 CWS championship game. Maybe it is unrelated, but Laxton was never the same after that.

I used to be brother. Most people probably don’t believe that story, but it is 100% true.

Yep and UL just won the Sunbelt championship and got their ticket punched. If LSU hosts, could see them going there.

I hope LSU hosts. LSU, ULL and SLU. What a fun regional that would be.

LSU will not host

That’s such a stupid, short-sided take. Do you think that’s a good recruiting strategy? Are you too stupid to see how they’re related?

I pitched 10 and 2/3rds innings in 2 days when I was 12 one time and I had a noodle arm by the time I was 13.
How old are you and how long have you been blaming your Little League coach for your not making the bigs? Pssssst. Here’s a secret for ya. You weren’t ever that good.

I mean. I could throw 65 when I was 12 and I had natural movement on my fastball and I had a variety of other pitches.
Nobody could hit me. The 10 and 2/3rd innings thing was an aberration. Normally I would only pitch 3 innings a game, but this was all stars and there were no rules about innings or pitch counts.
I was damn good. I never blamed anyone. I made one more run at baseball in high school, but truth be told, once I couldn’t pitch anymore, I just didn’t like the sport as much anymore.
I don’t know if I had big league upside or not. Your arm has to be able to handle a lot to throw the ball 90 plus. And mine couldn’t really handle throwing it 65.
Today, I can throw a few pitches in low 80’s as I’m a lot bigger and stronger than I was at 12, but I only have a few throws in me every once in awhile. My arm/shoulder just can’t handle the repetition.
If I could go back and do it again, I’d probably try to specialize as a closer and just keep it to 1 inning a game.
But hindsight is 20/20 and there is no guarantee I would’ve developed into even being a college level closer. It Would’ve been fun to try though.

I’m just fricking with you. If we could all only go back knowing what we know now.

Someone is stupid here and it isn't me. I said if the player is healthy and isn't tired you let him pitch if he is still effective.

Yep against Boston College. That game went 25 innings and is still the longest college baseball game ever played.
What is more amazing is that the Boston College pitchers pitched 18 straight scoreless innings against that Texas lineup

It’s called real baseball. Deggs is a real baseball coach.
