Jorge got his black belt from Marcus Aurelio...Marcus is an absolute stud on the mat, but hasnt put it together in the UFC
But pulling gaurd on Aaron Riley is not a smart idea. Aaron is old school, hard to beat, nearly impossible to finish. Pull gaurd on a guy like that and you end up ALMOST submitting him, and ALMOST sweeping him, and end up eating punches and elbows for an entire round

By the way, that uppercut that Stephens landed is the best punch Ive ever seen in MMA.
God what I would give to have landed that one against Lauzon...I threw it, but wiffed

the dudes eyes were priceless as he went down

That shot Gonzaga threw was enough. Gonzaga seemed shocked that Mazagatti didn't stop it. That's a first.

He knew the fight was over, he all but gave Mazagatti a WTF look before he finally finished Hendricks off.
Im kinda surprised he made Gonzaga hit before he called it. Not really any need to bounce the guys head off the mat...he clearly couldn't defend himself.
i wonder if he heard little birdies as he was going down.

That punch is something you see a guy in a parking lot try and completely whiff, then you say to yourself "why did he even try that"
Awesome to it connect the way it did.

Obviously I trust your opinion on that. It just seems like Gurgel always does that IMO. He didn't seem to be going for takedowns either, I know he just might not be good at getting people down, but he still should be trying.....right?

Yeah Palm Beach, the way, IMO to beat Riley (and Ive put thought in this because he was the fight offered to me in January of last year before I signed with the UFC) is to move and box and get off first.
Jorge was doing well when he was doing that. Putting together combos and moving in and out. He started getting in trouble when he got in straight brawl mode. YOU CANT BRAWL WITH AARON RILEY PERIOD. The guy brawled with a MUCH bigger MUCH stronger Robbie Lawler and hung for 3 full rounds.
You mix the good movement and combos with putting Aaron on his back, and you can win against him. You start winning rounds, and Aaron opens up and starts getting more aggressive, opning himself for BIG shots, and opening himself for the takedown.
You are right. I think Jorge looked better than I even expected standing up and putting combos together. HAd he worked a couple takedowns in here and there, he would have really tricked Aaron up. Aaron is tough on top, but not so tough when on his back

Maximus, do us a favor and put that GIF alongside the Junior Dos Santos KO of Verdum so we can see which uppercut was better.
I know they were both sick

you know boxing, is it just me or is the uppercut underused? Seems like you connect with that shite, its gonna be on the chin so the guy is gonna be in a world of shite. I remember that Jesse Brinkley guy on that boxing show would just get his arse whipped for 2 rounds then throw one big uppercut and win.
