Yeah I'm very interested to see the size difference between him and Oliveira after rehydrating. We already know the height and reach advantage is going to be massive.

Holloway also had a big height advantage, granted the reach advantage probably matters more than height.

holloway has short arms. not only that but he was yoy-yo-ing back and forth from 145 to 155.
here is topuria and rosas

Oliveira also has long legs and uses them. Like you said, the reach advantage will be there if he decides and is able to keep his range.
I'm most concerned with the body shots from Ilia if I'm Charles. That's the key to getting to the chin.

It’s a bad matchup for Olivera. His style is to march forward and that’s bad since Topuria is always looking to close the distance. Du Bronx better have some good clinch work and maybe hurt Matador with a knee. Or use his size to wrestle and control Ilia but the latter is no stranger on the ground.

It's almost here.
Charles was on a real boogeyman run for a while there, but Islam snapped it. Not sure Charles has been the same since the Islam fight. Chandler, who was destroyed by Paddy, was somehow able to do some real damage late to Charles. If Chandler can hurt Charles, what can Topuria do?
Topuria has built up this amazing thing of--can he really do it again? Can he really beat a third legend in a row? His confidence is off the charts right now. His interviews leading up to this fight, he sounds like the most confident guy in the world. He loses his whole aura if / when he finally loses.
Payton Talbott on the main card makes no sense. He just got worked / beat by old man Barcelos. If Payton loses to Lima, the UFC has lost all of the hype for one of its rising stars.

For me, its not his aggression that's the problem. He needs to keep Topuria off balance so he won't have his feet under him to unload that power. Pushing forward and using his reach can play into his favor versus being stalked down around the cage.
However, Oliveira stands straight up in typical Thai style and his body is going to be a huge target. A few hard hooks to the body and everything is going to start unraveling for Charles and open up for Ilia.
Head says Ilia but the heart wants Charles.

looks like most reports are picking Topuria in a knockout, which certainly makes sense. But yea, heart has me pulling for Charles big time.
My concern would be Charles likes to take punches. But Topuria's punches seem to just hit different. I would think when they studied the Max/Topuria fight they'd be like yea, we don't need to sit back and take shots from this dude. I'm hoping Charles can get him to the mat early and often, I feel like that's where he's going to have to win it. Topuria has been a bit of a bitch leading up to the fight so hopefully that'll have Oliviera a little extra motivated.

Oliviera hasn’t been knocked out since 2018 (Paul Felder lol) & he’s fought Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje since then.
I’d be surprised if Topuria gets the KO, but he did KO Holloway. Interested to see how Topuria matches up with Oliviera on the ground

quote:Gaethje said that Charles hits the hardest of anyone he's faced. He said it was like in a cartoon where they clamp an electrode on a character's tongue, that's the kind of aftershocks he was feeling from getting hit by Charles.

It's an interesting fight. One mistake / wrong move and Charles could have Ilia's back or submit him somehow and it could all be over real fast. But Topuria says that he thinks he's better than Charles in the ground game too.

That's awesome. Man I'm already nervous for this one

Hope this dude gets served some humble pie.

I think Charles' best chance is to be really pissed off with Topuria and his trash talk. Come in silent with a really focused anger / channeled rage. By all accounts Charles is a nice guy outside of the octagon, but he needs to go berserker mode against Topuria to the point where it makes Topuria feel like actually he didn't know who he was f***ing with by talking all that trash. Beat Topuria bad and say welcome to lightweight.
Kind of exactly how pissed off Khabib was with Conor. Exactly like that.
It wouldn't just put Charles' name back in the contenders' hat--Charles would be lightweight champion again.

UFC noche got a banger
Amazing that Silva is ranked 11th and will probably be an even money or slight favorite over a guy who literally just fought for the title and had a 5 Rd decision.
He will be the #1 contender if he wins that fight and probably take out Volk for the belt after that. Crazy ascension.
Bryce Mitchell also got fed some absolute monsters the last 2-3 yrs.

What happened to Lopes vs. Yair? Clear bad blood between them, fight it out for who gets to rematch Volk. Not interested in Volk vs. Yair next.
I think Silva stands a good chance against Lopes. Lopes can be nervous somehow, I don't know how to describe it.
I remember Silva walking out so slow to one of his first fights in the Apex and thinking, he's going to look like a fool if he gets knocked out after this entrance. But he's backed it up every time so far.

Theyve got a rocket ship on Silva. Yair has zero PPV juice.
