Often times they are. Again, it’s mma, not ju jitsu. The objective is to get your opponent out of the cage, and that should be the number one judging criteria, BY A LOT. If you are laying on top not able to advance, you’re not advancing the objective. It’s not different than if you are throwing strikes and can’t land a punch, your opponent is outclassing you.

If you are being aggressive on the ground looking for ways to land shots, trying to advance to a better position, trying to land a sub, you’re winning that exchange and should be rewarded as such.

It’s not neutral if I have dominant position. I’m not just gonna lay on top,

You just want a glorified boxing/kickboxing match, just admit it.

Well I would have to cuddle with her so she wouldn’t be able to beat me up.

I also never had anyone just stall on me while they had mount or side control position (which can suck worse than mount if you know how to apply the right pressure at the right angles and time)

Well you aren’t doing mixed martial arts so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make

Good luck bud. I really miss doing it. Did you start with the gi or did you start without it? My class was with and at first I hated it because it would wear me down and I also got caught with it. Once my cardio improved and I learned how better to defend against the gi subs I loved it.

My point is a grappler is always working contrary to what you believe.

I started with the gi and train gi and no gi. We have a purple belt with a judo black belt and a black belt who has a judo background. I also trained in judo before getting into jiu jitsu

That’s not what I said. Read it again and try using your brain this time

Yes, with the gi you can get creative with different types of chokes. One of the biggest differences between the two is gripping.

Gripping and hand fighting is an art itself

If you are in a dominant position and can’t do anything with it, it’s just like controlling the middle of the cage yet landing zero strikes. It should be rewarded, but only minimally.

Totally. The thing that helped me the most was my grip strength. I was able to stop a lot of potential subs because I could just control someone's arm.

The only person I could never control was the guy wanting me to do that tournament and that was because he was juiced out to the max.
