Do you really put any stock into academic rankings? You need three things to succeed in education: good books, good peers, and good motivation. Doesn't matter where these three things come together. When they do, education happens. Rankings are for people who care about brand labels, not people who care about learning.

There are a few decent guys who post on gotula.net who are aware of the problems with their administration. Unfortunately, they are far too few,and far too late.

The majority of Tulane fans are delusional old folks who still want to put their noses in the air, not understanding that LSU will catch up to Tulane in academics a helluva lot faster than Tulane will catch up to LSU in athletics.

I tried to be a fan but now, Tulane is merely the university my daughter attends.

wait are you really trying to tell me that there are people on message boards with outlandishly stupid opinions? and these opinions are enough to make you hate that team? I don't believe you #tigerrant

IIRC chemical engineering is one of the fields in which Tulane has a joint degree program with Vandy and Johns Hopkins. Nice try though

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Even Tulane alums admit that lately, Tulane has been taken off some big city law firms' and other companies' list of "preferred schools" for hiring.

I definitely give a damn and am aggravated, when my kid goes to a school supposedly with an elite academic reputation and a 50K a year tuition, and the academic perception of the school among employers is declining.

Scott Cowen, instead of boasting about this ridiculous community service requirement for students, if he REALLY wanted to contribute something to New Orleans, would open the engineering department back up.

LSU stays butt hurt about Tulane.

Tulane likes to focus on academics first and athletics second.

I never understood why LSU fans got so pissed at Tulane.

You would think we fricked their moms wearing a gumby shirt and made her sing Hullabaloo at the top of her lungs.

Example:

Tulane fan: our football team is pretty mature this year, hopefully that means we can have a good season

LSU fan: pshhhhhhhhh you guyz suck bro. Dream on

LSU fans can't stand to hear good news about anyone but themselves.

If you want to hold the notion that Tulane is academics first, athletics second, that is fine.

But then when you say shite like "OMG the Big East/ACC/Big12 would LOVE to get that New Orleans market!" or "I wonder if we should join the ACC or Big12" then expect to get laughed at endlessly. Tulane is not attractive to a BCS conference period, and to think otherwise is hilarious. Which is what the point of this thread is.

Maybe the older generation, like the OP. This generation of BCS era LSU fans have no clue about tulane athletics for the most part.

Isn't their msg board the one where you get banned for mentioning LSU? I'd say the feeling is mutual.

Damn, your life must be the pits...

He Mad

and I agree, I do not get why LSU people care so much to even have a negative thought or any thought about Tulane.

This guy though - wow, what are you really mad at pal. Does not seem that this should have set you off.... Therapy and night classes and then go drink.

LSU v Tulane-

I remember when this meant something, when it was a rival. My elementary school had the wheelbarrow races. My 2nd grade teacher wore a shirt '3 out of 4 going for more'
In a way I kinda of miss them and feel sorry. But knowing that you absolutely just skullfricked(next year makes 30) your one time rival is awesome.

For a 'smart' school, Tulane has done some really stupid shite.

1)Leaving the SEC is probably the dumbest thing any university has done with regard to athletics. I pretty sure vandy will take in more TV revenue under the current contract than the entire ACC.

2) Killing their basketball program. I was really young, but Tulane was in the old Metro. There was talk of making it a football conference. Tulane, Ga Tech, Fla. State, Va Tech, USM, South Carolina, Memphis, Louisville & Cinny.

3) The Superdome it seemed like a good idea, playing in a NFL stadium and for a while it was. I remember when Tulane had their name on one of the endzone, the Saints on the other. But a small school not in a conference would have to hit the jackpot (Miami) just to survie in that type of atmosphere. The supply of tickets would always be greater that the demand.

4)LSU & pure dumb luck
LSU has just had it greatest decade in school history. Tulane was lucky to survie (Katrina & the review).
But when LSU went thur its dark period (Hallman), Tulane was worse (Greg Davis & Teeveens). From 1991-94, Tulane won only 8 games. And when Tulane finally got their shite right, in '98. LSU & Lou Tepper weren't on the schedule. What if Tulane offers Marshall Faulk or Steve McNair?

5) No Consistency in HC
Mack Brown & Bowden were two great hires. But you followed them up with Greg Davis & Selfo. What if after going undefeated & top 10 in the nation, Tulane hires Rich Rod? He gets two year head start on Saban in Louisiana, and has two first round QBs on his roster.

Tulane is going to have to put more effort into football if they want to improve back to respectable levels. otherwise they are going to continue to slide downwards and LA Tech and/or ULL is going to without a doubt surpass them as the #2 in Louisiana.

Nobody on that board has ever been banned because they were an LSU fan. The board is fricking retarded though they ban pretty much any fan that says a coach should be fired or calls out a players poor play.

Why thank you for linking that, Rant Man.

That was one of my better posts.
