Dana respects that he is a fighter but doesn't respect his skills as an MMA guy. He also was probably turned off by Nelson's performance. Something also tells me he doesn't like guys that look like Nelson succeeding (call it the Tank Abbott syndrome). To outsiders it doesn't make the sport look good when a fat frick can succeed.

Ok. Crucifix would be damn near impossible to get out of. These guys wouldn't get to that point though.

nelson will never succeed at a high level anyway
he would die in a 5 round fight
he would die in a 5 round fight

I thought about this too, but it's not like the heavyweight division of boxing hasn't had it's share of fat asses.

i mean imagine the fact that he should be fighting in LHW

To the real MMA fans it doesn't matter. It's the "curb appeal" type of thing to the borderline sports fan.

Yea I completely understand that. In reality, MMA still has a lot of growing up to do.

why wouldn't nelso cut all that flab ala joe riggs?
Posted on 9/30/09 at 10:44 pm to 3lsu3
If he ever got a trainer I imagine he could.

I'd like to see Kimbo vs. Houston Alexander

me thoughts. I think Roy is a very talented fighter. He needs a trainer badly. If he could shed some of that flab, he'd actually be pretty good. Kimbo has a LOT of work to do. and good stoppage from Dean. I still enjoy the show even with the bad fights. Rampage is entertainment enough.

There is a few escapes and a few escape strategies to that position, but kimbo obviously didn't know them...
Much better, however, to simply not get there.
Do not hug the head under any circumstance.
It's so funny how completely wrong a persons natural instincts are when it comes to fighting.
The worst thing you can do if someone side mounts you is to hug the head trying to keep him close.
The worst thing you can do if you are mounted is you pull them down to you gripping your hands behind their back.
Yet, without fail, it takes months to break new guys of these mistakes when they first start training

How would you defend that? Cause I see many pro fighters do the same thing. And now that you say that, it never goes well once they do.

Rampage is hilarious. I have a feeling that Dana will throw Nelson to the Wolves if he wins the contract. Dana knows the fans don't want to see the kind of shitty fights he will be in. He does just enough to win by manipulating the rules. Those punches did zero damage. I'm sure the viewing audience was disappointed.

Generally speaking, one of the most basic rules of BJJ is if you're on the bottom to create space in order to get into a better position or create a scramble. On the flip side, if you're on top, you want to smother like Nelson did and work to get into a more dominant position. Like I said before this isn't always true, but in Kimbo's position last night he needed to create some separation between himself and Nelson and work to get up. Not grab his head like KBeezy said.

yeah but with a 264 lb guy on top?
and you can get out of a thai clinch b/c of your own lil natural move, so you're used to doing the impossible anyway

I can't decide if that fight was the worst I've ever seen, or the best of the season....
Can we go back and actually give page the cameraman he wanted when they were picking teams
