Yeah, Belmont was stamina, but the Preakness showed off his speed. Last to first in about a quarter mile.

Yep, awesome, but I still can't get over the first turn at the Preakness, how he went from last to first. Looks like "Buh, bye." LINK
That is freaking awesome

Why only 5 in the race? Not that it really mattered....
Of course it matters. With a full field he could have been trapped behind or between some other horses and not have been able to break free.

Secretariat was the GOAT. Debate not necessary, results speak for themselves. No whiny owner either.

Maybe if his post position was way outside. But he was last in both the Derby and Preakness and ran away, so I doubt it would have mattered.

Yep...broke last in both...was behind a full field.
Secretariat could have been behind Napoleon's grenadiers and still swung way wide to pass them all.

The best ever.
Too bad Sham was injured in that race.

Trainers always looking for an edge but all horses who hit the board and sometimes a random one go to the test barn after a race. Growing up working on the backside I've seen all kinds of stuff but to think it's a bunch of horses doped up on cocaine is false.

How exactly is this buddy in the horse business?
There are some crooked people out there, especially here in Louisiana, but most horses are on lasix and a few supplements.
Some get joints injected (not just racehorses, that happens in my pleasure/show barn too).
But the whole racehorses are all on steroids thing is false. Most of what horses test positive for are overages of anti inflammatory drugs due to different state regulations.
Not to say some aren't trying to stay ahead on painkillers. They try to stay one step ahead of what is being tested for.

Yes, that is to me the most amazing thing of all the 3 races, his pass from last to first in the first turn. Early in the race, horses running at full speed, and he passed them like they were walking. Unbelievable!

For me it plays to his legend that not only did he get better as he went along but he beat a horse that was truly worthy of wining one of the triple crown races. Sham was an incredible horse that would have won the triple crown himself in many years.

We will never see another horse like Secretariat!
