Why would they go home?

Aren't they students first?

He’s right, however the issue is liability. That will be the downfall of college football this year. Spring really isn’t an option. Hundreds will opt out, and it’s wrong health wise anyway

I wish someone would ask him if the ACC cancels the season, and the SEC plays- are you more likely to transfer to South Carolina or LSU?

He wants to play. Not needs to play. The tweets were speaking broadly for college football players, not really him.

Good for Lawrence. He is obviously a very smart person and he still wants to play even though he will go high in the draft. Since he tweeted that there are a shitload of players pushing to play as well, hopefully they save football this year but the NCAA probably knows they will frick it up at some point so don’t want the embarrassment.

a good stance by Trevor, but not really applaudable. The whole premise of his statement is that the virus is a serious threat in everyday life

Exactly.

There was a lot of talk even before the Natty that maybe he would skip the 2020 season. He has really nothing to gain. He will be the #1 overall pick regardless of whether he plays every possible down or not at all.

Been saying this for months...for whatever reason this is not being said by many at all - but it's true. Glad someone finally said it and that it was someone whose name is high profile enough that the press had to publicize it.

I keep seeing this word being thrown around but everyone seems to be ignoring that students are already returning to campus. If the university presidents were so concerned about liability, there would be no students on campus right now.

These universities make me sick. It is pure political BS - if it safe enough for a regular kid to return to campus for classes, it is safe enough for a D I, II or III athlete to do their thing.

No, the whole premise of his statement is that the virus is just as contagious in everyday life, if not more so. Will the people who want to cancel the season provide just one study—or logical argument—that points to WHY playing football makes someone more susceptible to contracting the virus than they would be doing anything else? It’s like they think we’re just gonna freeze these guys in carbonite, suspending them in indefinite animation until a vaccine is ready and they can thaw them out and resume everything as usual.

These players still have to fill 24 hour days, 7 day weeks, 30/31 day months, 365 day years, just like the rest of us. Is the “long-term damage” somehow more severe if you catch it with a college football uniform on rather than jeans? In a locker room rather than a class room?

To be fair, this szn probably wouldn’t have gone well (see MLB). 3 times the number of players and we’re talking about 18-21 year olds.

Who are largely completely unaffected by the virus on a national level. These specific individuals who are in peak physical condition are the epitome of those not at risk.
