The saga of Hong Kong vs. China vs. the NBA continues in Toronto next week with the distribution of more than 7,000 fan-made "The North Stand with Hong Kong" t-shirts on opening night of the Toronto Raptors 2019-2020 season.
A group of local basketball fans who support Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement raised more than $32,000 to produce and give away enough t-shirts to cover roughly a third of the Scotiabank Arena's audience.

Pretty sure some lakers fan is doing this as well.

Edit: yup

On the Lakers’ Reddit page, Lared discussed his plan to make the shirts and hand them out for free during the game October 22. To fund the protest, Lared launched a Gofundme with a goal of $20,000; the project raised nearly $43,000 before donations were disabled.

“China is trying to censor the Houston Rockets (update: and now the entire NBA) because of Hong Kong,” the Gofundme page says. “Wouldn’t it be hilarious if on opening night in Staples Center the NBA fanbase made a collective demonstration against censorship by wearing “STAND WITH Hong Kong” T-Shirts?”

For the NBA Champions to do this is a real "frick you" to China.

Making the national news cover this and giving the issue exposure is very helpful.

Yep, you’re right. Let’s go liberate the frick out of Hong Kong because an NBA basketball team in Canada is passing out free T-shirts

The more awareness that the world has about the situation makes it MUCH less likely China does something really catastrophic in Hong Kong.

I mean, I get what you’re saying, but in the end it still basically accomplishes nothing.

I don’t think any of these people think that these t shirts are going to liberate HK. The good news is that it’s not illegal so they can do whatever the frick they want.

The only thing holding China back from Tiananmen Square 2.0 is the world sentiment.

I dont even know what the US would do in that situation.

Military action against China is a bad idea.

And we already have them leveraged with sanctions.
