Honestly, this seems like a pretty sad situation. No one has said it yet but it is pretty likely that Young has Schizophrenia based on the tweets from a few months ago, his medications, and the reports of his behavior. Based on the quotes from teammates and his father, his behavior appears more erratic than violent. I can't imagine he will be playing football again even if he gets out of some of this legal trouble.

It is very possible he is mentally ill. If he is, I hope he gets the help he needs.

It's just as likely he is a fricking criminal

Mental illness isn't an excuse for committing crimes, especially when you know the condition exists and don't get help.

I don't think anyone thinks we should be giving him a high five but it is a possible explanation for his behavior. There should be punishment but mental illness should certainly be taken into consideration (if this indeed is the case for Young).

Its not exactly that black and white, especially if someone is suffering from a severe mental illness like Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. If it was diagnosed recently (Young is peak age), there will likely be a lot of trials to see what treatments work best (and there is no guarantee that they will work well). There also aren't a lot of places that specialize in this type of thing. It is not like he could take a pill and all of his problems go away. Add to that fact that a major part of these disorders is suspiciousness/paranoia and it is likely that it will take some time for a person to buy in to treatment. With these disorders, people are not thinking clearly. It is not easy as logically putting together what you should do.*
*Again, no clue if Young even has a severe mental illness (or a mental illness at all).
