USC is also questionable, most have never lived up to expectations.

Ya I looked at it different. I'm thinking of it as just getting the first round draft pick and getting paid.

What other school has had more first round Draft Pick QBs in recent time? (Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez) ya only 3 but still more than most right? And now scouts saying Barkley. Cassell a starter but not a first rounder.

UGA has only had Stafford in recent time, OU Bradford, Possibly Jones. Cal-Rodgers and Boller.

The Rest of Starters and First Rounders are all randomly scattered among other schools. (UVA, Michigan, Miami-Ohio, Va Tech, NC State, Tennessee, Delaware, Kansas State, BC, Purdue, etc)

Florida in the past had Tebow and Grossman, but I'd add them now with Weis as the OC.

i remember Broyles saying that about Gus a couple of years ago...then Gus turns around and wins the Broyles Award in '10.

anyone who said that about Petrino is clinically insane.

I would have put Joe Tiller on the list if he were still coaching. Brees and Orton is a good track record.

Here's a pretty good article detailing the Auburn running game last year.

the main power play was newton keeping it

running a zone play isn't "power" in itself. UF ran this with harvin and james

look at the 6 tenets

quote:

1. Running the offense at a 2 minute pace the entire game (physically and mentally wear them down)
2. Balanced attack
3. Heavy misdirection in the run and passing game
4. Stretch the field vertically and horizontally
5. Throw the book at defenses with specials, fire alarms, and various personnel packages. Plan to go into each game with 7-8 trick plays
6. Present the option in 3 different ways (zone read, speed option, power g option)

AU has some power plays (esp with a FB-QB like newton), but their run game is very misdirection-horizontal

i didn't see much of tulsa last year, but tulsa in 2007 wasn't an SEC offense either

his offense will work REALLY well against teams who can't pressure the QB. it's great for a non-BCS conference or even a conference like the big12 (even though big12 spreads are more pure spreads with shorter passing)

5 OL + 4/5 WRs + deep routes = big target on your QB

Gus at #5 in your preseason rankings is a milestone. granted, he'll be severely tested this year, but the guy has been recognized as having a pretty good offensive mind.

i got what all the skeptics were saying when he went from HS to CFB. i had my doubts too. He's clearly proven Broyles wrong though, among others.

auburn runs a version of the spread using power principles. they read power. so yes it is a power run game along with the zone run game. most teams are doing this that are more spread oriented. the difference is most don't have cam newton

It pains me to say this and I don't even know if he is coaching anywhere, but the pirate mike leech is a top 5 offensive mind.

fwiw, he completely changed his offense post-arkansas....and i mean completely

again, fwiw, but his time under nutt and learning to value the run/option game did wonders for his transition to this current offense

every spread option team who doesn't rely solely on scat backs runs a spread option with "power principles"

we'll see how their offense runs without a 260 lb QB with running ability trying to get 1st downs

Anybody arguing Gus Malzahn's offense doesn't use gimmicks is fooling themselves, as I said, I know first hand it uses gimmicks.

They didn't run it in the typical sense, where you read and either hand off or the QB would keep it, they would either hand off, or drop back to pass.

IMO, will have to change it completely again this year to lean on Dyer and McCaleb alot more than he did last year.

That's what I like about him so much.
