Brady took to Instagram on Thursday to express his dissatisfaction with the rule change, believing it will cause safety issues for the offense, such as identifying blitzers or who's the middle linebacker of the defense. "Good luck trying to block the right people now!" Brady posted on his Instagram story, with an image of the new numbers permitted. "Going to make for a lot of bad football!"
quote:

Brady then posted a screen capture of a story about the rule and directed it to the NFL and NFL Players Association, with the words "DUMB" and "Why not let the Lineman wear whatever they want too? Why have numbers? Just have colored jerseys...why not wear the same number?...DUMB."
quote:

The NFL's new rule, adopted Wednesday with a number of other proposals, allows quarterbacks, punters and place-kickers to wear numbers 1-19, defensive backs 1-49, and then running backs, tight ends and wide receivers 1-49 and 80-89. Offensive linemen can wear 50-79, defensive linemen 50-79 and 90-99, and linebackers 1-59 and 90-99.
Hey Tom, if college and high school kids can handle it, I think you’ll survive.

I don’t agree with Brady on this point, but there is a large difference in calling protections and defenses at the high school level vs the pro level

Brady is just a guy whose been at the same job for a really long time and doesn’t like change. We’ve all been there

Did you really just compare the complexity of off. and def. schemes to high schoolers? On a sports board? As a smackdown of the GOAT footballer?

Might be a good time to put the DEL key to work on your OP.

because his reads are based on the numbers they wear and these new numbers will confuse that, thats why hes not happy about it, he now has to relearn how to make his reads

Actually he said college and high school, and plenty of college programs run high level blitz packages with any position on defense possibly wearing a single digit number.

No shite the schemes are different. But he should be able to handle a few fricking number changes. If anything centers should be pissed off because they actually have to identify a number when calling the mike

And he will. But it’s a classic life cycle of any work change. People are gonna complain when you change stuff they are used to

Brady’s been the one to identify the Mike during his entire career, so it sounds like you agree with him

So you agree that he should delete the OP then? because including high school was sheer stupidity.

What’s the point of changing? Seems like another dumb change the nfl is making just to make a change.

Colleges and high schools actually practice.

The Buccaneers are conducting off-season workouts via zoom.

I might edit high school out, but there’s no need to delete the entire OP.

Bureaucracies got to bureaucrat. It's how they do. I'm sure a bunch of bureaucrat rules committee guys patted each other on the back like they just cured cancer. Twats.

The NFL should allow QBs to wear numbers in the 20s since they are part of the backfield.
