Kid put up two years of potato and then lights up North Alabama and Texas State and these talking heads start SIMPing. What did he do do against equal or better talent? He looked like the same meh quarterback he did the last two seasons.

McShay is wrong a ton, just like every GM/Coach/Owner/Fan. He has a shot of being right, but let's look at his observations recently
quote:
McShay said he believes the Browns still need to address the quarterback position, which is no surprise because hey, EVERY mock draft has the Browns taking a quarterback. He added, “This pick obviously changes (or is up for grabs via trade) if Cleveland lands Kirk Cousins in free agency. Between off-field issues for Rosen and his tools and intangibles on the field, Darnold should be the pick. I understand why Kiper went with Josh Allen in his first mock, but Darnold is a little safer. He’s the best of the bunch at this point.”
quote:
"From purely on the field, the grade for Jameis Winston is just behind Andrew Luck's in the last ten years and there is nobody else in between," said McShay.

In terms of pure talent, Jameis has few peers. McShay was right about that. But not even the best scout can tell what is in a guy's head. And Jameis has a 2 cent head.

Fields has the highest ceiling of any QB in this draft due his athletic profile. Now getting him to that ceiling is a whole other story.

He said last week that Darnold was better in college and more pro ready than burrow
He is an expert on tv so people think he's right a lot
quote:
“Sam Darnold was more talented than Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Joe Burrow coming out of college,” McShay said. “Darnold just needs people around him.”

That’s such a cop out statement
“The player I am lobbying for has the tools to be the best, but certain obstacles may prevent him reaching being the best”.
There’s no way you can be wrong with a statement like that.

Pretty ridiculous to say that after Burrow’s 2019 campaign, but Darnold did land in quite possibly the worst situation I’ve seen a top QB go to.

Fields seems like a guy that TV people are high on, but actual scouts are not.

I mean every top QB goes to a bad situation right? I just think he's as right or wrong as every team GM or coach or every single fan.

Well for what it’s worth, I’ve said before I wouldn’t make Fields the franchise, but I’m not going to deny his physical attributes either. He needs a place that won’t rush him out right away nor will try to pigeonhole him into an offensive philosophy that doesn’t fit his skill set.
If he goes to the Jets or Broncos or Lions and they throw him out there right away on an offense he’s not suited for, he’s toast. If he goes someplace like say Pittsburgh or Indy that won’t rush him out there and will build a roster and playbook around his strengths, then yeah I think he can be Lamar Jacksonesque (whom is a much better QB than the idiots on here would lead you to believe).

I hate on McShay a lot because he was basically created by ESPN. However, McShay was one of the first draft prognosticators to start dropping Fields.
His first mock in early January had Fields dropping to the Patriots at pick 15. Since then, a lot of other mocks and prospect rankings have Fields falling as well. McShay was one of the first to predict Fields sliding out of the top 10.

Adam Gase isnt exactly something every top Qb walks into

I'm willing to give Darnold a mulligan due to his situation in New York. He was set up to fail. And admittedly, I liked Darnold coming out of USC. I thought he was gonna be a pretty good pro.

You should edit that out, so that no one else has to read your ill-advised comparison
