You aren't placing the ball...you're dropping it arm fully extended.
but should you be allowed to intentionally drop it away from the divot?

No because if you chunked it you hit behind the ball.

what? so drop it in the middle or front part of the divot.

No because if you chunked it you hit behind the ball.

I'm going to hold my arm out extended as close to where I think the ball will hit and that spot where I think it will hit should be where I last played from.
And I've never dropped a ball that didn't bounce at least twice and move 3-6" from where it hit first.

so you intentionally TRY to land it in your divot?

but most players won't do this. they will strategically drop it to where the ball lands outside the divot.

What about the ball was in a divot before your first shot? Then you purposefully guided it away from the divot on your drop? It landed six inches to the right of it.
Rule violation in your opinion?

I'm going to extend my arm out over where I last played from. And yes, I've had balls roll back into my divot...or someone else's divot in a drop zone.

Stand two feet back, extend your arm out and drop a ball 5 times...it isn't going to land in the same spot.

But it's about intent. Not the result.

yea I don't know why Golfer is filling this up with the result of the drop
