re: Thu Night NBA Playoffs: Thunder Roll, Lakers Clapped again

I think Sat the Lakers have a chance to make it close. They will have to make their last stand. Can’t let it go 3-0, so expect them to play hard. And after their on-court ref conference call they’ll get some calls. Can OKC overcome or not? Should be fun and rowdy, Sat night game fans will be sauced up on the good stuff too.
But at OKC, it’s hard to win.
Thunder at home in the playoffs since last season:
Win by 18
Win by 18
Win by 13
Win by 35
Win by 12
Win by 11

Loss by 1
Win by 30
Win by 15
Win by 26
Win by 32
Win by 7
Win by 43
Loss by 2
Win by 19
Win by 51
15-2 record; +343 point differential.

Hell yeah. I love it.

Same thing happened with Golden state. When they first burst onto the scene, it was all fun and games, then people turned on them.

They even fulfill what NBA haters have been asking for. They play defense and don't rely on threes. They're just too good at it and end up kicking every team's arse, and those fans have to grasp at something to complain about.

Lebron deserves to go out like this IMO. Before Lebron's era flopping was reserved for euros and not superstars, OKC is perfecting what Lebron helped usher in
The NBA should have stumped out the flopping problem ages ago

Yup, its like this in every sport too. Its only amplified because a small market is not supposed to sustain winning.
Big markets were content to let a small market have a crumb (title) every now and then. But Presti has built a machine and they don’t like it. Granted, they haven’t won anything this year but have the look of a potential dynasty type team.
Whats changed is media and sponsors. Used to be the great players were enticed to big markets because they could pay the big endorsements. But now with how social media has changed you can be a star in any market and still have reach of the world. They get endorsements from everywhere.
Lakers have 17 titles and were acting like spoiled babies last night surrounding refs post game because refs were not handing them the game on a platter. Thats not normal for them and they’re big mad.

I mean, I wouldn't want to lose my NBA team?

this is OKC fanfiction
People don't hate them for the market, they hate them for the flopping

Nah, this is all wildly inaccurate. The Thunder are the least popular dominant NBA team in probably 20-30 years.
Casual fans loved the Warriors. An entire generation of kids idolized Steph. Fans of other teams did get sick of them, but there was nowhere near this level of vitriol from other fan bases. They also attracted a large national bandwagon following. That is the typical narrative of dynasty NBA teams.
This OKC team is incredibly disliked outside of their own fans, which is a group limited to residents of Oklahoma and the adjacent states. And weird Canadians. Casual fans, kids, etc all hate SGA and the thunder. There's a massive lack of charisma to go along with their despicable style of play dragging them down. They are attracting almost zero national interest other than derision.

Nah dude it’s a conspiracy against small market teams!
Posted on 5/8/26 at 11:18 am to MusclesofBrussels
Yep.
Kids did and still want to be like Steph.
If my kid grew up trying to emulate SGA's game I would kick his arse.

I think it’s more about how rotten online culture has gotten than anything. How kids react is downstream of media coverage and social media trends, and media coverage is also downstream of social media trends. So if social media is a lot nastier and more toxic than it was 10 years ago, then media coverage chases that for money, and that’s all the kids see.
No way to test this theory unless the rot in our culture holds up longer than the Thunder do. Let’s hope not

Keep it up, we love this. We actually feed off it.
Just know, there is nothing you can say that will make us feel bad. Quite the opposite actually. You can keep posting these sad little commentaries but you're only making yourself feel worse.

Yet the biggest haters on this board love Jokic, who flops way more and complains to the refs constantly instead of getting back on defense.

This statement is rage loser bait and shows how disconnected you are from reality.
OKC is so unwatchable that the league has the highest ratings in 33 years
Last year’s Game 7 was the most watched Finals game in 6 years. The other games in the Finals also did very well.
People can say all they want that OKC is unwatchable, but no one actually means that. They ask you to tune in.
The Thunder are the villains right now, and that’s okay.

Your feelings are irrelevant to me. I'm just posting the objective reality of how the thunder are perceived.
Shouldn't you be on the OT arguing that astronauts don't really go to space?

There are two factors driving the ratings increase:
Nielsen changed how they calculate ratings this season which caused a spike and makes comparisons to prior seasons inaccurate.
This is the first season with widespread streaming across multiple platforms and they report numbers differently.
Comparisons to prior seasons are broken right now.

This is also inaccurate. The finals were doing terribly until game 7 which spiked because a game 7 in the finals is obviously a big deal. A quick Google returns this:
quote:
The 2025 NBA Finals averaged 10.27 million viewers, marking one of the least-watched Finals of the century despite a competitive seven-game series, continuing a trend of lower viewership for small-market matchups. Game 7 was a bright spot, drawing 16.6 million viewers, the highest for a final game in six years.
