Umm Palmeiro? And as already said a few others olayed at the same time as Jeter.

That's pretty much a lock. If he gets 100 a year for the next 5 years he'll be at 3200+

I have Ruth at 1 and Bonds at 2 with a fairly substantial gap between them, but Ruth never got 3,000 hits either.

Yes.

However, Jeter's 3,500 hits = Thome's 600 HRs.

I'm going to assume Thome is clean.

I think they both will.

I keep saying this, but only 5 players in major league history have reached the 3,500 hit mark, and the Yankees have 2 infielders that could do it.

And they have 3 infielders who will retire with 3,000 hits, IMO.

Ruth was also a PITCHER for the first 6 years of his career. If he was in the OF the WHOLE time, NOBODY gets close to his records. Best of all time and its not close.

It was a joke, and I completely agree with your post. See my all-caps post up on this page.

baseball is best judged by eras.

Jeter is the one of 2 guys in his era to get 3,000 hits (along with Biggio).

Thome will become the 5th person of his era to get 600 HRs.

Only problem I have with Thome is his last 200 HR's have come from the DH spot while Jeter has stayed at short. IMO when you put this into perspective, Jeter's 3000 is more impressive.

Sure it's close simply because this is your personal opinion. Ruth was one of the greats but IMO no one can be called the absolute greatest.

Why? I guess Jordan is not the greatest basketball player either because no one can be called the absolute greatest.
