Wilt's first 4 years in the NBA would like a word with you. Actually, his 61-62 seasons just wants you to stop talking about basketball forever.
lol
I love the Wilt card.
I don't believe Wilt shot over 53% in any of his first few seasons in which he averaged an insane amount of points per game. Considering the fact that post defense was pretty much nonexistent in this era of basketball, that should literally be impossible.
He had to shoot the ball 35+ times per game to accumulate those stats, despite being way more athletic than nearly every other player of his time. He wasn't very skilled offensively AT ALL at that point in his career. And he hardly passed the ball. Those teams he was on never won anything, despite having far and away the best player in basketball. Obviously, the Celtics and Lakers had something to do with that, but if he's that good he should just be able to lead his team to a title no matter what right? Just like LeBron should have in Cleveland?
Watch some tape from games back then. There was no body contact in the post on defense. Defenders would just stand there with their hands up. It is in a different galaxy than what post defense is today.
ETA: Wilt had better seasons than the ones you are pointing to.

You mean like how he was suppose to win one last year? What's the excuse for that? I'm sure it was Wade or Bosh's fault right?
Dallas was a great team.
The heat chemistry wasn't there yet. I would say Wade's skill set doesn't really mesh well with Lebron's skills and that did limit the Heat. Wade doesn't spread the floor and allowed the Mavs to collapse on the paint more when Lebron was handling the ball.

How did he do in those Finals?
You are a fricking moron.
Lol you are the fricking idiot. He choked like Bush on pretzel in those Finals. He put up by far the worst performance in Finals history by a star player in the series against the Spurs. BY FAR!

First year with the Heat.
And? The Celtics won a title in their first year together. Is this really your excuse?
quote:
Dallas' core has been together forever.
LOL you are outright stupid for saying/believing this.
quote:
Lebron has played triple the playoff games Durant has.
He's been in the league longer and has played in the clearly weaker conference. Hell this year is the first season since 97-98 that the East has an argument for being on or near on par with the West.
quote:
This year they are the best team.
Cool. They still won't win the Finals this year.

Durant is a great scorer but not a great player

LeBron James - 31% (21 for 68)
you left that out conveniently
Durant is doing a lot better this year (maybe the last 24 second stats dont show it, i know he has made 3 of those already though). i have been impressed with his play in the final 2 minutes of games. that seems to be the biggest improvement he has made this year. its only his 5th season

I'd say they are the clear favorite.

I left it out because I'm not arguing Lebron's performance in the last 30 seconds. You are about Durant and you are dead wrong as the stats show.

Umm do you know your history? Wilt was averaging 50% from the field when anything over 45% was considered amazing. Hell only one TEAM averaged over 45% from the field that year. A third of the league does that nowadays. Shooting 50% in the 50s and 60s is like shooting 60-65% in today's game, but while playing over 40 minutes a game.
The pace of the game was far faster than it is today. Those guys hardly ever came out of games. Hell the year he averaged over 50 points a game, he also average 48.5 minutes a game.

Wilt also played against a bunch of 6'5 guys. Wilt would be an average big in todays game.

i have no idea when those stats come from... what if durant was 0-15 on game winners his first season or 2 and has been above lebron the last 2 years?

That's Chicago to me. They have the best starting 5 in the NBA and a damn good bench. They go 8-9 deep. Either way, being the favorite doesn't make you an automatic to win either. They were favored to win against the Mavericks last year and they lost. Hell the Mavericks weren't suppose to make it past the second round and they won the whole damn thing.

I meant year by year breakdown.... For all I know he Went 2 for 26 his first 2 years and 5 for 7 the last 2 years.
I can't hold missed game winners in his first 2 seasons against him. The dude played 1 year of college, he is small, it's a huge adjustment coming into the NBA. He is entering his prime now and we see what he is doing in clutch situations. I think he is 3 for 3 this year and at the very worst 3 for 5

He shot higher than what he shot in those first 4 seasons about 6 times in his career.
And Wilt was playing in an era with players that weren't even close to his athleticism and sometimes much shorter than him.
He had better seasons than the ones you pointed out. He shot the ball better and he passed the ball way more. Consequently, his teams were better as well.

Ok nobody is saying Durant isn't a great player (except that one guy) but can we just end this, if you go look at stats, or videos of these guys objectively, Lebron is clearly better, if you objectively read the points brought up in this thread he is clearly better

Wilt also didn't have the advanced training regimens, nutritional advantages, and the depth of coaching that players have today.
If you are going to penalize Wilt for being a freak athlete, then you have to do the same for LeBron.
As for your claim that Wilt would be an average big in today's game, that's just horribly stupid.

he is a better player... not sure he is a better scorer. thats a toss up on any given night. durant is scoring more ppg and has made more game winners this year
