Steve Prohm (former and current Murray St coach who replaced McMahon) is crashing and burning in year 3 of a 4 year deal. He's likely to be fired after this season.
Murray St fans/donors may want McMahon back. But it's not in McMahon's best financial interest to walk away from LSU and leave all that buyout money on the table. So he's not. Hell, he may be pulling a George Costanza and trying to get fired by LSU.
Perhaps there is a standoff going on. McMahon wants to return to Murray St, but wants LSU to fire him in order to do so. LSU wants to get rid of McMahon, but hopes he would leave on his own accord. If McMahon doesn't leave on his own and LSU doesn't fire him, then Murray St is going to hire a new HC. When they do, McMahon's window to return will be gone for at least 2-3 years. Maybe more.
So let's make a deal! McMahon is not getting another major conf. job after this year, or the next. If he wants to be a HC, it's in the mid-major ranks. So why not go back to a place where everybody knows your name and is glad you came? Tell McMahon you will cut him loose to go back to Murray St in exchange for an agreement to accept a reduced buyout. Maybe 50% of the remaining salary. Otherwise, he returns to LSU.
Murray St. gets their guy back without him hitting the open (mid-major) market or missing their window because he is tied up at LSU for another year. LSU gets what they want by cutting ties immediately at half the cost!

Always a great look to see the coach dropping profanity and taking the team to play video games. Great leader of young men, that one.
How much does it cost to get somebody who can do that?
Maybe his wife can cut a check from her personal account for some pizza.
To read the rant, I think it’s reasonable to wonder why a serious program hasn’t stolen this guy away from McNeese yet. I mean…surely players at the likes of Kentucky, UNC, Duke and etc also like to spend their valuable practice time loading up their plates and playing video games while listening to their coach cuss, right?
How much does it cost to get somebody who can do that?
Maybe his wife can cut a check from her personal account for some pizza.

You have this strange ignorance where you act as if players from different conferences and levels magically appear on other rosters. You have no sense of relativity when it comes to sports. You think LSU, Murray St. and Mcneese are all the exact same, pulling from the exact same roster pool and playing the exact same conference opponents. The fact that this is always your favorite and perceived strongest talking point makes you seem totally clueless and dumb.

I’m intelligent enough to know that you don’t bring back a guy who got the FBI’s attention drawn onto your organization…especially when he can’t justify it by going deep into the tourney.
Then again, I don’t swallow what he offers, either.
But hey…maybe there’s a major program out there that wants to hire him away so that he can spend practice time feeding the kids with unlimited food and video games while he drops profanities as their representative.
Oh wait…there isn’t such a program, which is why he’s in Siberia.
