This next generation of NBA “stars” are going to tank the league further.

People are out here trading for Jimmy Butler at 35 and we have to act like it’s crazy league news that old Steph and Jimmy are together. Past his prime AD is getting traded for a 25 year old megastar. I’m not saying Luka isn’t great, but the whole league just feels stale and the “next gen” has to be the weakest I’ve ever seen. There’s no grabbing the torch.

Okay past his prime isn’t the right phrase. But the fall off is big when they’re past their prime. And he’s not far off from being close to falling off, especially with how injury prone he is. So frick off with your LOL.

Yeah, I guess the Thunder are grabbing the torch in terms of being best in the league, but I’m talking about grabbing the torch of making people give a shite about it.

Those injuries are just gonna keep coming.

You might be onto something. Luka and the Mavs owned the Thunder, now the road is opened for the Thunder’s ascent, unless the Rockets continue rising.

You know what I meant in my OP. That AD is on the downslope of his career from now on and Luka is supposed to be a superstar of this current/next gen NBA. The fact that he got traded for an injury prone older dude isn’t a sign that the next gen is “grabbing the torch”, it’s a sign that this NBA generation is dog shite. It’s why LeBron keeps his performance so high into his 40’s.
Check the ratings. The Luka trade is a sign of how shitty things are, not some spark.

The NBA is dogshit at promoting their young talent. That’s on them.

The problem is they're all in small markets and the NBA media is as bad as it gets.
Luka in LA will be insufferable, but he'll carry the torch for the time being.
Jokic has also shown zero sign of slowing down, but most believe he'll be a guy who retires while still playing at an elite level.

Wemby, Ant, and SGA are your answers here.
They’re each 2-3 years from their peak. Maybe a little longer for Wemby if he can fill out.

The NBA and TV are to blame for always pimping their aging stars. Xmas day Thunder didn't even get a game. They went with old aging players to squeeze every red cent out of ratings instead of building new fans with upcoming stars.
Oh, and OKC trailed by 2 at half and won 140-109. They play defense.

Pro sports have proven that the only model that REALLY works is to have one very good rivalry (Celtics/Lakers, Yankees/RedSox, etc), or to have one or two teams that everyone just hates (Chiefs, Dodgers, Yankees, Lakers, Heat superteam, etc).
When that component is missing, the viewers plummet because once your favorite team is eliminated, there's no reason to watch.
I know its tinfoil hat stuff, but I still find it amazing that every ten years some other NBA team decides to dump a Gasol, a Davis, a Doncic to the Lakers, keeping them relevant a little longer.
