I think we need to stop focusing on Texas and consider what would happen if another top team here and there does this to determine what should be allowed.
So, if "RTR, the Bama Network" decided to start airing Louisiana HS football games would you feel that gave $aban an unfair advantage. I think it does. I don't see a problem with a conference network showing HS games in their region, but not a school's network.
EDT: Though watching the Auburn faithful having a complete shite fit would be entertaining.

Its OU and A&Ms fault for being the Longhorns bitch, and not leaving when they had the chance. The Longhorns took a shite in a box, wrapped it in some nice paper and a bow, and yall said "Thank you can we have another".

It doesn't matter. What UT is allowed to do sets a precedence for what other schools will be allowed to do.

True, but you also have to consider the improbability of Bama ever getting its own network (because of the SEC's power).
It seems like the new power conferences will dominate TV deals, while the powerful schools that are left out create their own networks.
I can think of only two schools that can actually pull that off, at this point, and the other one
is Notre Dame.
In short, while I appreciate your Kantian assertion that we should apply a sort of categorical imperative here, I think we also have to consider that these networks are not going to present major threats to the integrity of recruiting regulations across the board.

my post is talking about HS football games being shown on the Longhorn Network.... shown favoritism to current longhorn commits.... you commit.... we'll show you on national TV
Gee I wonder is that's because the people most likely to watch the LHN are UT fans and the players UT fans would be most interested in seeing are LH commits.
Do you really think a kid that other wise wasn't considering UT is going to sign there because they will play one of his games on an obscure network that 99% of people won't have?
quote:
so your saying that they would not do this to pick up a player like Landon Collins or T Davis???? Both players have been targeted by Texas from my understanding.... get em on TV and then we will see what you really think.... open your eyes
you sound like one of those tinfoil hat conspiracy kooks if you think Landon Collins will be swayed away from LSU or Bama because ONE of his games is aired on the LHN

Not trying to be a jerk, but I already told you they intend to air a game in Arizona. You don't think they'll go into LSU turf ... why?
The AZ QB has ALREADY committed to UT, what advantage do you think they are going to gain? Do you think of bunch of kids for Arizona will suddenly think, gee I want to go to UT because ESPN is running commercials for UT? Come on.
Holy frick if it was that easy we could solve all the worlds problems by having ESPN run ads for what ever we want

According to CBS Sports, the Longhorns are valued at approximately $119 million, and turned a $59 million profit last year. That's more than any other team by a large margin, you don't get there if you aren't loved outside of your own state.
Who was second you might ask?
Notre Dame at $108 million and boasting profits of $38 million (according to Forbes)
provide a link, Ohio State was #1 last I heard. I guess it depends on how you count "profits".
Oh and when you are one of the largest schools in the country and in the 2nd largest state, and college sports are generally regional, you can to be #1 with a largely in state following. Outside of alum, there are not many Texas fans outside of Texas.

He's verbally committed. Nothing is signed. And tge team playing doesn't have any uncommitted players? And who's to say he didnt verbally committed with the promise of this game?

Who is to say that kids won't verbally commit just to get on TV and then decommit after the game and go somewhere else?
That line of thinking goes both ways. Again, I think you guys are making a really big deal over a relatively minor development.

There's other articles I can't fund at the moment. But pretty much ESPN can be defined as a "booster" of Texas because of the money they are giving the university and their vested interest in Longhorn football succeeding. Which would preclude them from giving benefits to prospective recruits

WHY THE HELL IS A&M AND THE REST OF THE BIG 12 JUST NOW OPENING THEIR EYES TO THIS? YOU GUYS ARE LATE WAKING UP TO THE FACT THAT THIS WILL
1) WRECK THE BIG 12
2) CREATE A HUGE ADVANTAGE TO TU IN ALL SPORTS
YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN SCREAMING FOUL FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!!!

Only you seem to think it's minor. Gary Pinkel and Bob Stoops were very vocal against it at Big XII media days. As have A&M AD Bill Byrne and President Dr. Loftin

You actually emailed the NCAA?

Here's the daily article about it. It's pretty good IMO. I didn't post it on the SECr or MSB because I'm as tired of seeing it on those boards as the next guy. This seems like a good place for it though
LINK
Y'all can feel free to post it on the rant if y'all want. It would be better received from a Tiger anyway

OP makes a great point. Not sure why LSU fans in this thread are mad?

^This. This is all going perfectly for the SEC. A&M wanting to go SEC destroyed the UT to the PAC deal. Now that UT has a deal for the LHN, they can't join the PAC-12 or the Big-X. So eventually they will come to the SEC. No all we have to do is make sure LHN is relatively useless. :)

IMO it's Texas' arrogance (yet with no swag to back it) keeps kids in LA from going there.

Hell yeah I did. I hadn't seen anything out of their office that they were going to address the issue, and if they feel enough pressure from the general public they'll be more likely to take action. I got that reply about 3 days after I sent my email. With all the media (not ESPN) that were covering the LHN and the ethics of airing high school games during that few-day span, I assume I'm not the only one that emailed.
I've emailed a few of the decision-makers involved. Most are canned responses, but some were personal.

We were all pissed at the thought of it from the beginning, and discussed things on our own message boards when things first came out. Many of the ideas were up in the air at that point, with nothing solid, so it didn't make too much sense to get up in arms about things that quite possibly were not going to happen. A&M's AD made a comment at the start that there were parts of the LHN that would need to be looked into. That was as aggressive a comment that he could make at that point. I think A&M's leadership was counting on Beebe (the Big XII Commissioner) to reign in the LHN ideas that were out of line.
As time went by, it appeared to the A&M fan base that Beebe had given a virtual green light to the LHN and all their wishes. Now that the time is growing near for the network to debut the 12th Man's volume has increased substantially.
Beebe has said that the airing of high school games has been put on hold until they can investigate things. The longhorns are still inking deals with high schools as recently as this week. The NCAA is holding some type of conference in August to discuss the matter. A&M leadership has stated that there is "uncertainty" in the Big XII.

No sure yall realize what is going on here. UT has network (TV) contract. Exclusive. But they dont show but two UT games. The rest of the game are of high school games for UT recuits or players UT wants. If this works who long before bama and UF do they same things, of course we will too. But it is bullshite, nothinh but an end around and illegal recruiting move. Right up there with 7 on 7 bs.
