I would say he would be the clear front runner for the mets job but sounds like he's taking the year off

He said this is early October:

quote:

"I've been transparent about my feeling that after a certain period of time, there can be real benefit for both an individual leader and for the organization for some change," Epstein said. "I've not backed away (from that idea). I mentioned it the first day I was a Cub, and again when I signed my second contract. I'm not going to run away from those feelings, but I am also as invested in the Chicago Cubs as our leader in baseball operations today as I was at any point in the last nine years.

I can't cite where I read it a few weeks ago but apparently there's some thinking he's headed outside of baseball like Billy Veane

Think I just saw a tweet that says he wants a stake in ownership with his next job

This was going to be his last year anyway. The Cubs owe him $10M, and are making cuts across the organization.

He’ll probably take a lower buyout to save the Cubs money, and let them speed up the transition.

He was probably going to take a big pay cut anyway. Now he doesn’t have to deal with all the headaches of starting and managing a season full of questions and obstacles.

In other words he doesn't want to make the tough off season decisions for the Cubs, he already indicated 21 would be his last with Cubs.
Astros could use a GM

You knew it was coming.

But where will his next project be? He likes to come in with teams in shite shape, and bloated vet contracts, find suckers(dodgers with redsox) to take those players and fill the farm system.

Who will be his next project? It will be a Large Market team, he ain't going to a small market team.
