The difference with soccer in the US compared to the WORLD is RICH kids play the sport as opposed to kids that need to feed their families in Brazil, Argentina, Bulgaria etc. There is more passion and history abroad and it's not watered down like in the US. Hockey is just an American sport with history but needs more support from the southern states. I'm hoping Fertitta bring an NHL team to Houston. I'm for growing hockey even more in the US and stop banning the Russians from competing in these tournaments. We want to see the best!

The NHL has 32 teams. Only 7 are Canadian. This happened a long time ago. Canada lost their sport with the Gretzky trade as the NHL went crazy for American expansion
I mean 4 of the original 6 are American teams.
Boston
Detroit
Chicago
New York
Toronto
Montreal

The growth of college hockey is another huge factor. It is where college baseball was in the 90s. The training and investment into college hockey is completely changing it. Now, many first round picks are playing college hockey and college baseball. That used to never be the case. This is making the game more American, as college alumni can root on their squads. Sacred Heart, UConn, and Arizona State all just built phenomenal new hockey-specific arenas to play in.
Additionally "Club" aka ACHA hockey is blowing up... UNLV "CLUB" beat the defending NCAA national Champs in Denver University this year in an Exhibition Game
UGA just got a legit rink built for them too
I think we see a legit Southern D1 hockey conference within 20 years

quote:If the U.S. starts generating a lot of good players, they’ll have so many that many of them will naturally join the MLS, which will raise the standard of the league. When the standard of the league is raised due to the volume of improved U.S. players, it becomes a legitimate league for even really good players to join.
Also the MLS is a joke and all the best talent goes oversea’s to play. Not sure how possible it is to change that any time soon.

American hockey dominance is already here.
Didn't the Florida stanley cup team have majority of Canadians? There was an entire shift from Canada that was nothing but Florida players.

canada will dominate us in soccer though which is way more important than hockey

Kids are never going to gravitate towards soccer if they have other options. Kids will pick hockey
Getting into hockey is much more costly than soccer. You need a place to skate, and it is much harder sport to learn (skating and puck handling).
You can a pick up a soccer ball and go in your backyard.

It’s beautiful beating them in the only thing they care about

The US Men’s national team for Soccer could learn a thing or two from their ice friends.
I will say the US has beaten Mexico quite regularly since the turn of the century. Something that used to be a rare feat. Maybe not too unlike your Canada hockey comparison.

A Florida team has won the Eastern Conference the last 5 years. Tampa 3 straight and then Florida Panthers the last 2. That includes 3 Cups.
I know Tampa has done a big outreach in getting new kids the chance to try hockey for free. The sport is definitely growing in the south.

The equipment is the most outrageous cost. And ice time as you mentioned.

Canada is up 4-0 on Finland right now.
We will get a rematch in Boston on Thursday night. Can’t wait to hear/see how Boston handles Oh Canada before the game.

Hockey doesn’t play nearly the same amount internationally. This is the first time we have had the NHL players participating in 10 years. Going forward it will be every 2 years with the Olympics and World Cup rotating.
