It would be gimmicky if the course didn't use the baskets, but since they always use them I think it's cool and should be used. It's part of the course, just like any other part of the course.

This could be a fun thread the week of the Open:

Now for the fun game, which player will be the first to hit a basket with a golf shot and complain?

I was reading about Merion the other day and thought it was pretty cool. Going to be a change for the players for sure.

What?
Odds are extremely high that if Tiger does not win his super fans will be pissing and moaning about the baskets making it harder to judge wind.
Just wait.
Its going to happen.

You don't like Tiger, we get it.
If he doesn't win, it won't be because he didn't judge the wind well.

I hate this fad of artificial old shite.
Stop it.
Stop it.

I have no problems with Tiger.
I don't like his deluded super fans who think he does no wrong and look for every way possible to excuse him for any perceived faults.

You honestly think the odds are "extremely high" that they will blame the baskets on his loss?
Yeah. Doubtful. It doesn't even make sense.

yea, it'll happen.
Tiger nuthuggers are just as delusional as Kobe/LeBron nuthuggers

What other excuses have they used similar to this?
Excluding the Masters debacle. I have never seen a silly excuse such as this used.

I've heard people legitimately blame his struggles on his ex wife, not banging whores at every stop, and his caddy saying mean things about him.
I sat next to a guy at a bar who seemed to truly believe that had his wife just bit her lip and dealt with it he would already have the record for major wins.
Dude was dead serious.
Injuries and other players catching up with workout routines and such were no big deal to this guy.

A life-changing scandal is not the same thing as blaming the wicker baskets on top of a flag stick.
You think that his struggles have had nothing to do with his scandal? I don't think it's all that, but it played a part mentally for him. I mean hell, he took time off from the game for it. That alone means it contributed to it, indirectly at least.
One guy. At a bar. Very large sample size there.

I'm not going to sit here and try to remember every single instance I have heard a Tiger fan say something stupid while propping him up.
the fact that you seem to believe this shite doesn't happen makes me want to put you in the category of Tiger nuthuggers.
Sorry but he was already slowing down when his marriage collapsed. He got older, his body aged, and other golfers adopted his workout regime and started to catch up. It was going to happen regardless of him getting caught banging every two bit road lizard he came across. If he was really that concerned with his family, he wouldn't have done that shite in the first place.

Put me in whatever category you want. I don't know what shite you think I believe.
I am a Tiger fan, but I don't make any excuses except he didn't play well enough when he loses. No point. I enjoy watching the rest of the tournament and watching good golf being played.
I can see that. And obviously age, competition, and other variables are much bigger factors than a scandal, but there is absolutely no way to know whether the scandal affected him in a big way, a small way, or anyway at all.
Still though, saying all the Tiger 'nuthuggers' are gonna blame a wicker basket on top of the pin on the reason he lost a month before the tournament is asinine.

I'm willing to bet that no more than 2 posters on this site will post that Tiger lost because of the wicker baskets.

Hate this idea. Can't gauge wind. And please don't say throw up grass. It's merion. U need to see the wind on the greens not the fairways. Also those things are hideous and if u hit them the ball can go anywhere.
