27 Aces and 0 DF, and just ballsy on second serves in really, really big spots for Fed. I thought he played balls-out, and Cilic played well enough to beat almost anyone else. Of course, I will admit I didn't get to watch every single point. I am working and catching interrupted pieces, but the story of the match I saw was Fed coming up big on serves in big spots and particularly with some seconds in tense moments.

I never thought anybody's serve would ever compare to Sampras, but Roger has kind of been servebotting his way to finals the last few years and is a close second now to Pete IMO.

cilic had him 0-40 in the 3rd set, and then 15-40 in the 4th set. and three match points in the 4th set.
and federer wasn't getting first serves in. cilic was missing easy second serves. he couldn't even get them back. he missed two second serve returns on match point.
cilic played amazing the first two sets, yes. and he played well the rest of the match, too. but he choked on the big points. unfortunate when that happens. cilic was the better player today.

And one guy is 27 and the other is 34. I've never really understood the hate for fed on here. Dude is still competing for majors and he's 5-6 years older than most of the people he is playing against

Hopefully the old man gets another one, but he's going to need other players to help him with upsets.

Milos could very well beat him, especially by squeaking out a few tiebreaks. But, it's a good matchup for Fed. I think we get the Murray/Fed final now, but hope Jo Willie has something for Murray.

i'm not hating on fed. dude is awesome and hit some amazing shots.
but i don't think the better player won today. that's it.

Anyone here actually like Murray? I don't hate him. I'm kinda neutral. Just curious if he has any non-UK fans.

No he is not.
Laver, Borg, and Sampras have something to say. Who knows how many Borg wins if the Aussie Open was a priority in the 70's.

How can the better player on that day not win a 1-1 match with bias officiating not involved in that sport?

Neutral, don't like him but don't hate him. Definitely rooting for Joe though, love me some Tsonga.

He seems like a really good dude off court -- very dry sense of humor. But, a lot of people hate him for being a whiny dick on court.

3 out of the 5 left other than Fed are essentially in uncharted territory (best of 5 in crunch time), and Fed has had generally favorable results vs. Andy in Slams. I don't know how Raonic is going to handle the pressure in the SF, and I didn't get to see him vs Query, but if he doesn't get Fed in straights, I don't think he will get him. I think winner of JWT v. Murray (likely Murray) all but has a ticket into the finals.

i'm assuming you've watched tennis before?
eta: roddick outplayed federer most of the match in the 2009 wimbledon final. sorta like that.

No offense meant but I think the person who wins a tennis match was the better player.

none taken.
i disagree with that. so did the color commentator who called the match today.
