Osaka withdraws from RG. I will root against her for the rest of her career.

Same.

ETA: Can't wait until the media makes this all about her mental health and how brave she is.

Played the depression card. If true I hope she gets help. Maybe she does have mental illness. I just hate the way she handled this.

Eh, she’s losing out on hundreds of dollars by withdrawing. At least she’s not out there playing and refusing to do post-match press conferences afterwards.

The next time she does media availability she might not get the softball questions they normally ask her, either.

This was a mistake by her and her team or whoever advises her.

Isner's case, he probably likes the extra time on return.

Well since he draws a 8 ft diameter square and won’t get out of it, I’d say you’re right.

I hate watching him because you think he may do something and he just won’t.

Professional athletes these days are such coddled, entitled pricks. They play children‘s games, and the only reason they make a living is because the fans want to watch them. Yet at the same time they make it seem as if the fans are the worst part of their job.

It’s pathetic. Frick Osaka.

Watching the powers that be melt down about her not being available to the press as if she’d committed an unspeakable offense had me in her court.

But withdrawing just makes her look unstable. Wish her well but it’s clear she needs time away.

Well said. If it was McEnroe skipping a press conference it would be totally dismissed as McEnroe being McEnroe. And perhaps even good for the game (any publicity is good publicity). But this is next level shite withdrawing from the tournament.

Most of the players seem to be against her on this. I don't think they enjoy press conferences, but they acknowledge it it their responsibility. I think she is just getting caught up in her weird wokeness. She didn't really explain if this is about supporting others with mental health issues or it's her deal. I'm guessing she was a little surprised by the backlash and doesn't know how to deal with it.

Same.
I called BS when I read she gave an “on court” interview, why is that different?

Also, media was good for her when she wanted to get her social justice issues forward, now it’s bad for her mental health? I don’t think so. Use your platform to talk about the issue not run and hide.

Look if she had depression, that’s certainly a real mental health issue, but as her sister on reddit said last night, she just didn't want to answer to her mediocre performances on clay, which is certainly not a mental health problem. She threw journalists under the bus and is now trying to get out of “jail” with this statement/withdrawal when she was criticized for good reason.

I think she's a snake in the grass and manipulative, but I also think she has a team of people around her giving her bad advice.

I agree with that somewhat but I could care less if an athlete speaks to the media or not this day and age. Sports journalism has become entitled as well

I'm not so concerned about the journalists, but some tennis fans really like to read the transcripts and listen to the answers. And she's making $50 million of endorsements from fan support.

Isner was thoughtful when asked about it and basically said that. He said it's all about the fans and you have to do these things for the game.

In court speed news, Medvedev said it's playing like a hard court. Roger seemed to be servebotting out there. Opelka and Isner advance. Perhaps it's a sign of conditions.

Social anxiety is a thing. How is this any different than Rickey Williams?

Roland Garros fricked around and found out. They could have just fined her, but they sent her a threatening letter, so she took them up on their offer.
