Apparently Coric had a 2-11 lifetime record on grass before this tourney.
So last week he'd only won 2 grass matches in his life, and this week he takes down the grass goat at his best tournament.

For informational purposes only (maybe not for long in ‘Murica). If you are planning to bet on Sock, just Paypal me the money instead and I’ll double your odds.

Obligatory garbage 250-level tournaments the week before a major:
- Turkish Airline Open: draw (Mannarino is your focking #1 seed)
Notes thus far: Florian Mayer's grass court chops are slipping. #41 in the world Gael Monfils got a bye lolololozzzololzozozlololol.
- Eastbourne: draw (significantly better draw than the above).
Notes thus far: nice win by Murray over Stan. Murray v. Edmund next round should be very interesting. Not a good look from Ryan Harrison, who got routined by Jay Clarke. Donaldson takes out Fritzy in 3. Should Fritzy be asking for his money back from Paul Annacone? Also, Donaldson's coach is Jan-Michael Gambill, not to be confused with Jan-Michael Vincent. Donaldson v. El Shapo tomorrow should be interesting.

Rafa has the #1 ranking back, and it will be tough for Fed to get it back. Fed would have to win Wimbledon, and even then Rafa just has to get to the 4th round to keep the #1 ranking.
After that, Rafa doesn't have many points to defend as he lost in the round of 16 to El Shapo and QF in Cincy to Honey Hut. Meanwhile, Smug made it to the finals in Canada. He didn't play Cincy but he probably won't play Cincy this year either. Obviously Fed would almost certainly get it back if he won both Wimby and the U.S. Open. Big ask doe.
Here is the leaderboard for # of weeks at #1:
1. Switzerland Roger Federer 310
2. United States Pete Sampras 286
3. Czechoslovakia Ivan Lendl 270
4. United States Jimmy Connors 268
5. Serbia Novak Djokovic 223
6. Spain Rafael Nadal 178
7. United States John McEnroe 170
8. Sweden Björn Borg 109
9. United States Andre Agassi 101
10. Australia Lleyton Hewitt 80
I don't expect Rafa to catch Connors, but Novak seems like a possibility.

Apparently Rafa, Playboy Grigs, Puh-wee, Chung, and prolly a sprinkling of others are playing an exhibition event at Hurlingham Club in London. LINK
Why they would play that instead of Eastbourne is beyond me. Perhaps more money. Perhaps playing in an event where they don't care whether they win or lose is better from a preparation standpoint. Perhaps the organizers promised them they could bang Meghan Markle. Who knows?

Ha, I didn't think Isner would make it there.
I'll start getting fired up for Toronto in three weeks.

with djokovic taking wimby, the rest of the season has a different vibe to it, very much so anticipated.
i'm looking forward to the north american hardcourts.

For sure! In hindsight it was funny to see that we would leave Wimbledon with three scenarios-
1- Fed wins: best ever, will never get caught
2- Rafa wins: He's going to catch Roger, 2 years younger
3- Djoker wins: The big three is back!
I'm excited. I'm a Rafa fan, but watching he and smug separate themselves from the rest of the field got boring.

Not much on the board for Americans today. Smyczek got a really nice win over Ebden. C. Harrison and Steve about to start.

Just ordered my US Open tickets for Labor Day weekend. Doing the day session Saturday on Ashe for men's/women's third round, and night session Sunday on Ashe for men's/women's third round. Have been to Indian Wells twice but this will be my first Open experience.
Agreed that the season has a much different feel now with Djoker taking Wimbledon. Hopefully we'll get more great matches between him and Rafa on the hardcourts this summer and fall. Also looking forward to seeing Andy healthy and back in the mix.

That's awesome!
Any Steffi Graf fans here? Then you sure should enjoy watching Johnson play.

Nice. I’m curious to know how the two differ, since I’ve only been to IW. I would say I’m jealous but I’m not sure. The Open strikes me as a mass of humanity in a small area, and more costly than I would like, but I could be wrong on both accounts.

I'm going to the Open on middle Saturday and Sunday this year. I went on the final weekend 20 years ago and thought it was very meh. Ashe is terrible at the top. But, I think the facility is way better now. Plus, grand slams are more exciting earlier in the tournament. But, I think the smaller tournaments are easier to enjoy with more intimate settings and without the sea of humanity. IW is great, Cincy is very good, and Toronto is decent.

I'm going to be there Mon-Thur of the first week. Got Ashe day tickets in the upper deck but don't really plan on spending much time in Ashe, mainly got them as rain insurance since it was about the same price as a grounds ticket. Going with my dad and it's both our first time so we're pumped

Same here. We have the backup plan if there is rain, but will be walking the grounds if the weather is good. I'm excited to have Armstong tickets on one of the days because I think that has a roof and will be better to watch matches at than Ashe.

Yeah Armstrong has a roof now, I definitely want to check out a match there in the General Admission section.

Stevie wins Newport. Fog and Cecch take clay court titles. Atlanta this week, DC next week, then Toronto, and Cincy.
Posted on 7/22/18 at 7:24 pm to Bunk Moreland
I’m on some DC next week

Gambling or visiting? Looks like work stuff is going to keep me from Toronto or Cincy, but I have Flushing Meadows lined up.
