Why is Mike Bryan playing with Frances Tiafoe out of all people?
Somebody said Bob is hurt, and Sock is doing the team tennis thing along with a few others. Not sure why Isner isn’t playing doubles.
My question is why the hell is Mike Bryan playing at a 250 event? Must be an appearance fee involved.

Same here. And I have a match tonight when it will be a cozy 110° at 6:30 pm.
I might even take that over 90 and swampy, though it’s a close call when it’s that hot.
I played on har tru, and it just reminded me how much more physical that surface is. Rafa rolling the field at 32 is insane. That’s a young man’s surface

I think that’s the same stuff I played on last year at the USTA campus. I was only there for an hour, and never managed to get the hang of the footing. The sliding aspect was cool as hell, but changing direction was not fun.
The bounce didn’t make sense to me either. I was hitting almost every standard rally ball below the waist, which I hated. I guess that’s why they call it fast clay, even though the speed isn’t really a problem. Maybe it’s just fast in relation to red clay.
I really need to play on red clay one day. I think I would love it for about 30 minutes before the paramedics show up.

Just seemed weird that out of all guys, he went with Tiafoe. Maybe they've done Davis Cup or Team Tennis stuff together?

I love playing on Har-Tru.
Have you ever played red clay? I’m curious how drastic is the difference in bounce and speed.

Kyrgios. What a joke. He drops a tight 1st set 7-5, loses interest, gets down 3-0 in the 2nd, retires with another bogus injury, and then gets booed off the court. What year is it? 2015? 2016? 2017? I can’t tell because he’s exactly the same player as he was 3 years ago. Dude has no interest in the sport, and throws in the towel at the first sign of adversity. He’s basically the anti-Rafa.

I wish he would start getting suspended for his bs.

I would love to as well.
Do they have any here in America besides Houston?

Per Wikipedia regarding Houston...
“In 2007, after a few years being held on the same red clay used at the French Open, the event was held on Har-Tru green clay. In 2008, the event went to a maroon color of Har-Tru clay as the River Oaks Country Club renovated their courts in 2005. After renovating their courts again in late 2008, the surface remained the same.”
Here’s a thread from 7 years ago about red clay in the states. I can’t see how Americans will ever be great on clay with so few places to practice.

My club has 12 Har-Tru courts in addition to 12 hard courts. I play on the clay every chance I get. Significantly cooler (I would estimate at least 10 degrees) and much easier on the body in my opinion. Ours have above surface irrigation, and I have made sliding a part of my game. I would definitely like to have a chance to play on the red stuff.
On another note, had a great time at the BB&T - nice seats behind the baseline, and caught the Friday 12:00 session which was the first three QF matches. I was totally surprised at how much Matthew Ebden utilized serve and volley against Baghdatis - didn't know he did that. He is also a very personable guy.
I was impressed with Mischa Zverev's game in person - more so than watching on TV. Quite an impressive slice serve and very soft hands on the volley game. Isner's serve is something to behold in person. The hop on the ball is incredible. Zverev worked him hard in the first two sets volleying the ball at his feet.
It was nice to cheer for hometown boy Ryan Harrison - very good match with Chung. Chung looks quite a bit more substantial in person, especially butt and legs. As much of a tennis nerd as I am, that was my first pro event to attend in person. Have seen plenty of high-level junior stuff, but this was of course very special.

Wow, the US Clay Court Championships are on red har-tru. That just hurts my feelings.

Nice to see those guys defending those points. Harrison is in the doubles final too, that's a lot of tennis.

The weather this week in dc is not going to cooperate with the citi open.
I may go tonight despite the pessimistic forecast.

So what is the story with Team Tennis? Is it possible that Sandgren already had a contract with them and that is why he is not playing as much ATP tennis right now? Seems crazy to not take a chance at as many points as he can right now.
