Might as well swallow your pride, join the Sun Belt, and play some more local teams while awaiting that precious CUSA invite.
Your problem is that you're thinking about this from a logical viewpoint. You have to get liquored up then eat a bunch of pills first.

At this point, playing ULL, ULM, ASU, and UNT is better for Tech than playing Idaho, NMSU, USU, and SJSU.
It's better for travel in all of the other sports, too. Plus if the Sun Belt adds 3 more there's your CG and more revenue. shite, they could play it in Independence Stadium

Are they a better program than ULL and/or ULM? The realist says, "Yes, a little," while your average Tech fan says "Yes, by a mile."
I am not a Tech fan, but I think their program is much better than ULM and ULL.

I don't know about "much" better, but I'll admit that they are a little ahead of us.

logistically it makes sense for them to rejoin the sunbelt. they can make more money from visiting teams during conference play. it's an easier road trip for fans from ULL, ULM, or ASU than it is for san jose state, hawaii, etc. and tech will save money by not having to fly to every single road conference game.

The final couple ULM games last decade didn't draw well because they were in November and both teams sucked balls. If you play the game in September, you can cash in on the hopes of fans who actually expect their teams to be bowl eligible.

the WAC is no longer a top mid major conference anymore. It's dead.

Truth. Of course, I'm not sure I ever see a CUSA invite for LaTech without major realignment with other conferences or an all-out CUSA split.

quote:The Big East will have to swipe quite a few C-USA teams for this to be a possibility. Even then, the only reason C-USA would want Tech is for it to fill a 12th slot for the purposes of a conference title game. And even then, that title game hasn't proven to have been particularly lucrative to the point that C-USA should go out of its way to have one.

quote:I imagine that any SBC title game would be played at a home site a la C-USA; I can't imagine tickets to such a game to be in such high demand that Tech, if they are the regular season champ, would want the game moved from their home stadium.

If the Sun Belt were to do a title game, the best spot would be New Orleans.

quote:No way. Gotta be the home site of the top division winner. Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic in the title game in New Orleans with a trip to the New Orleans Bowl on the line? Maybe 10,000 people.

SBC title game at the home stadium of any SBC school? At or near capacity.
This is why C-USA has a home site host its title game, and it's why the ACC should go to a home site (Boston College vs. Virginia Tech in Tampa? Dude.).

ULM was 5-6, a chance for a sure-fire bowl bid on the line in the last game against the Ragin Cajuns, they barely filled up half the stadium.

We have so much fine tradition and history at Louisiana Tech. It astounds me when I hear people say we don't.

Only one school in Louisiana can fill their stadium under those circumstances.

quote:This is an amazingly good point by a Tech fan on that board. If the SBC takes NMSU and sets their sites on another WAC school, Tech will all but be forced into the Sun Belt.
11 is NMSU and then the belt will make it known to Tech that TSU is next, unless we sign on. This forces our hand because the WAC will be done. Could be interesting. A rare smart move my Wright Waters.
